Bottled or tap water?

So I've been in Greece now for the past 5 weeks (just in case some didn't know). And last year my next door neighbour, whom I'd become friends with was from Slovenia, and he said he to me 'it's perfectly safe to drink the tap water here, I drink it all the time'. You see I would always buy bottled water and he thought it was a waste of money. He use to be in the army and like me he is a fellow windsurfer. Like Tantra it's a small community, every one knows every one here(pretty much) . Anyway I still carried on drinking bottled water. However this year (to cut a long story short) a few days ago I started drinking the Greek tap water. I'm supposed to be moving hotel, but it's too much trouble to go out and buy a month's supply of bottled water(I always buy things in bulk, it's much cheaper) . And so for the past 3 days I've been drinking tap water that I put in the bottle, which I stored in the fridge. And well I'm fine. Its just when we go to Spain, Greece, Italy ect we always buy bottled water. Well I don't know really, but thus far tap water seems fine. But you know some bottled water company actually take thier water directly from the mains water.

Anyway I just thought the folks here might find this information interesting if and when you do go abroad. That's in Europe by the way. Obviously not in other parts of the world.

Brita filter for me but i' d drink tap water if I didn't have the filter.

I drink a lot of water so buying bottled would be quite pricey

Well I've been drinking bottled water for years here, and now that I've just started drinking thier tap water, I can't tell the difference.

Our tap water is great. Tastes like.bittled water to be honest. Been to many areas in the country and tap water tastes like shit compared to our local supply.

It's a weird thing to say but if we are home or local tap water. Anywhere else, bottled.

I always drink tap water in the UK but normally buy bottled water elsewhere.

The only place I haven't was Rome. The water in Rome is lovely and readily available on street corners and in parks from water fountains and taps.

I don't buy bottled water, I pay to have drinkable water and there is already far too much unnecessary shite in this world. I try to limit my contribution

Manchester water is delicious and lovely and we drink it completely unaltered, no Brita thingy. We've never once had to descale anything and it leaves no residue on a glass etc. The softest water ever. I fill re-useable bottles full of this sweet nectar every day. Now, at my Dad's house on the Wirral (only 45 miles away), it tastes disgusting; the kettle, taps etc get covered in scale and you get an awful scum floating in your tea. It's horrid. But I don't stay there so often so I put up with it

When we visited that there London, pre-plague era, the water was so vile I couldn't even tolerate it to brush my teeth. I got diarrhoea every time we went and couldn't work it out, but very high mineral content (especially magnesium) can cause the runs. It's carefully chosen bottled in London (if we ever go again!) Same applies on holiday - test it first. If it's tolerable, then great. If it's bloody horrible/gives me the runs, then bottled (after checking the dry residue content and magnesium content).

Paradise, Herts

Only drink bottled. Tap water is awful here.

As soon as I get to Manchester though I always have a drink from the tap. It’s sooooo different!

Ive travelled quite a lot and try to drink the tap water if its safe. There's so much plastic pollution in the world and the carbon cost of processing and shipping bottles of water dosnt sit well with me so I try to use the local supply.
