My new tattoo is so itchy and its driving me mad.
I have been using Bepanthen and looking after my tattoo. I have resisted the urge to touch or rub the tattoo and I have no flakes at all, but it is just so itchy. Is there anything I can use to stop this or just live with it for however long it takes.  |

"I only use bepanthen, only thing that works for me.
Try soaking in in as hot as water you can cope with,pat dry and reapply. May be helpful to try a antihistamine to help with the itch xx  "

Yes I have been washing it and then patting dry and reapplying. It does ease a little when I first apply but after a while it starts again.
I've had it 5 days now  |

germolene's got a bit of local anaesthetic in it so would numb it a bit....
I had my 1st one 6 days ago too!!!! Had a butterfly, somewhere quite sensitive!!! What did you get? x |

I used to be a tattooist. I swear by Preperation-H
It's made from natural ingredients and won't clog the pores of the skin like Bepanthen and Vaseline and cause an infection. Be warned though, its embarrassing to buy and doesn't smell very nice. I've used it on all of mine with excellent results, and I have a lot! |

Never had that problem, I have a large violet on my wrist and people always say how vibrant it is |

The trouble with using Vaseline and cling film is infection. A healing tattoo can generate heat, bacteria loves warm, damp conditions. Covering a tattoo with Vaseline seals the bacteria against the wound and cling film will hold the heat, sweat and bacteria right there.
A tattooist only uses Vaseline during the process to control blood flow. That's why the clean it all off when they're done.
You may have been alright, so have many of others but there are better aftercare products out there. |

That's a common misconception. Truth is, once the colour is in its in. The deciding factors are generally, how well its been applied, if its mixed properly, skin tone at the time (fresh tattoos look different on tanned skin) and the quality of the inks used. Also the inks aren't opaque as some people think, so freckles or dark patches of skin can show through. |

I had a fairy tattooed on my foot. I already had a flower tattoo on my foot, so they reworked that one too. It was painful to have, I'd forgotten how much a foot one hurts, but my pain no gain.
I agree that tattoos are so addictive. I've been planning it for a while but have seen about 20 others that I love. I can't cover my body with tattoos but its so addictive and they are nice.
Mine is very pretty, she (the fairy, I talk about her as if she's a separate being) has a gorgeous pink dress and very pretty wings and a wand with fairy dust. Worth the itching for sure |

It's addictive for sure. I love the endorphin rush I get while I'm getting work done.
I'll probably end up completely suited one day.
My elbow hurt the most, but I still smiled like a maniac all the way through!..lol |

witch hazel gel its great for the itching, it has a cooling effect so really helps
Personally, even tho lots rave about it i have never rated Bepanthen, i find it drys the scabs to quick causing them to fall off to early, im not sure if others just use it because its the done thing to use or if they really like it but i never have, i like the witch hazel gel as it stays wet so does not dry the scabs and really cools the skin |

For the love of god don't do that!
You should really be keeping it as dry as possible for a week or so. If you have to wash it use Luke warm water and a gentle soap.
Most general healing creams are pretty good; bepanthen, sudocrem, prep h etc. my artist swears by savlon and it has worked perfectly with mine - soothed the itching and I've had no colour loss from the scabby bits. I do use t like moisturiser though, one tube per tat. |

Coming in at the end of the thread, but as being a tattooing and peircing apprentice., takes a. lobh time. We , and I only use cocoa butter. Not after antiseptic . You should be doing that with cleaning . Just after keeping things moist ish. And it smells lovely. |
