Congrats to Spain and Switzerland after their wins yesterday and progression to the Quarter Finals.
A couple of frankly disappointing games though devoid of action or incident so let’s hope for much better tonight in the last of the Round of 16 games tonight.
First up at 5pm, plucky make-weights England play Footballing Titans Germany, who have just about won everything in the World game bar the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy.
England, it should be added, have only ever won one knockout game in European Championship history, and that was a penalty shootout, so the omens aren’t *that* good for tonight tbh (it’s true, look it up stat fans! )
Then at 8pm it’s Shag’s Sweden vs Ukraine for who gets to play the Germans in Saturday’s Quarter Final in Rome.
The “Anyone but England” brigade will be chomping at the bit to throw English arrogance back in our faces come full time this evening, so hold fire folks, not long now before you can have your time in the sun!
How are you watching, and where are you watching the game? Are you able to leave work early? Are you pulling a sickie?
I’m lucky enough to be sitting my arse on a piece of red plastic somewhere in the HA9 post code and having to pay £3 for a bottle of water later, but I’ll catch up it you all on my return. Keep the thread going for me in my absence, fanks!
Predictions?
I’ll go for:
England 2-0 Germany (heart ) or
England 1-3 Germany (head )
and Sweden 2-0 Ukraine
What do you think?
Who will make the headlines?
Who’ll be crying in the streets of Brent tonight? |

Yorkshire at the back…. London at the front… have to say.. impressive
Good news now is that yellow cards are now wiped… you know you are going to have the majority of possession on Saturday night
So keep the same side… or more attacking full backs.. |

The games haven’t been great, however job done and clean sheets to boot which will be a huge moral boost. I’m surprisingly calm, maybe I’ve finally learnt not to get carried away. Bring on Saturday |

I’m still buzzing to be honest but I’m overjoyed.
Without getting into hyperbole, this is the first time that we’ve beaten a major footballing nation in a knockout game in any competition since 1966.
Next stop Rome on Saturday!
And so we look towards the opponents that we’ll be facing there.
Sweden vs Ukraine at 8 |

I must say that I was really impressed with the back line. Maguire coming back in has made our defence look far more solid, Stones and Walker seem to play better with him there too.
Luke shaw had a very good second half and Trippier is a much better player than 3 years ago |

I think that I’ve felt the same. People seem far more inclined to pragmatism for some reason this time around |

For me I think it is as I’m not out and about, work or in the pub where most of the hype comes from talking / dreaming with mates before the tournament even starts. |

That’s possibly it.
I know that I’ve been more conscious of not getting carried away and not giving in to the usual fervour. |

"Are we going to see a repeat of the Russia 2018 quarter final?
"
I’m feeling like Ukraine will win this one. Sweden always seem to sit back and soak up pressure (quite well I should add) and Ukraine are the opposite, seem to be very brave and attacking, I just think they’ll create more chances and eventually take one or two.
I’m going 1-0 Ukraine |

At least we get there to fall short. Scotland on the other hand fall short before they get anywhere. It's good you have something to make you feel better though.

One last thing that is going to go underestimated… well done the FA!
Why…..
This last 16 game was originally due to be held in Dublin.. but the FA stepped up to take the game

Maybe they were flat track bullies after all and the real group of death was Scotland England Croatia and Czech? |

Normally people gloat when in a position of strength. Kind of loses "credibility" if that's the right word from a team that achieved 1 point. But I'm sure you're still enjoying it. |

Home from Wembley, got to say the limbs when we scored were epic... even though it was only half full the noise was off the scale. Amazing! What a day!
The game wasn’t that great was it, who cares! The best £43 I’ve spent in a long while!

You may not be beyond the last defending player (bar goalie) when the ball is played in your opponent's half, if you are interfering in play or gaining an advantage from being in that position. |

All that is irrelevant. Your info says 5 times in 50 days ears, thats not too bad. I dont even consider Soccer a sport. Most of us over here dont.
You fuckin stub your toe and get stretchered off the field. Haha. What is that?
How can you watch a full game and it ends 0-0? Must be such a disappointment for the players the fans
It was a round of 16 game and all of you talk like its the championship. You guys celebrate a 4th, 8th or 16th place finish. Even 2nd place is the first loser, thanks Ricky |

The story is that the World Series is named after a (now defunct) news paper.
As for football, it’s the most popular sport on the planet, only Americans don’t care because they’re no good at it.
The fun part is that it actually uses feet (hence the name) and no one needs to dress up like a car to play
Of course you have no concept of history, we have houses older than your country and we don’t just change history to suit us! Over here history has significance |

The fun part is that it actually uses feet (hence the name) and no one needs to dress up like a car to play
