I joined in 94 left beginning of 2007

NI, Bosnia and afghan, no Iraq tour… but I’ve worked out there for a few years. I’ve worked with a few reserve lads on ops And enjoyed having them around, some of the skill sets they bring into a unit is ideal on tour. And they want to be there which is always good.

The old days of thinking you guys weren’t up to the mark are long gone!

Don’t get me wrong it’s still good to rag you guys over being reserve but it’s always friendly banter

My section commander on my basic was in the Rifles and he said pretty much the same thing. There’s things you don’t learn in the regular army that civilians do which can be a huge asset. Also said that the difference between reserves 20+ years ago and now is huge. Much more professionalism.

Happy to the piss taken though. Can always hang up on those RAF lads and ladies

You have your age on here as 31. You got out 9 years ago which makes you 22 years of age when you left the forces. You did 12 years which works out you joined up at 10 years old. Lying about your age. Your service or are you a Walt?

Do you ever wonder if the people you are fighting for are infact total prices of shit and should arm up and fight there own battles if they want to plant weapons in the hands of insurgents, create instability in other countries, and kill mothers and children with their bombs? Sell bombs to Saudi Arabia knowing fair well they will be used in yeaman whilst shouting War crimes in Syria, then have the cheek for 80% or something like that of national charity funds to help yeaman the country that was destroyed by their own bombs they made a profit on. Not there to decide the outcome now are we. Sometimes the outcome benefits society sometimes not. If the chance is there to make a child's life easier according to our values to me it is a righteous fight. I trust the women and men that have my back in that cause. See we do not see race or color we do not see sexual preference. If you have my six I do not give a fuck about politics and agendas. Learn integrity maybe that will help in your endeavors.

I'm not attacking anyone I'm just generally interested to get people's opinions in an open minded space without causing offence, I just think looking out for who looks out for you as a systematic war machine breeds a mob like culture, or dog eat dog world. Does integrity not mean having strong morals, does shooting other people in the name of other people's lies or agendas and saying well I'm here to do a job not wash your own integrity away?

Ok who is right. Is your question ? Try being a female in a institution that considers women less then goats. I did a dustoff with a 10 year old child because warlords decided to party. Bacha Bazi. Yet I could not confront that cocksucker because I was a female. I swear I would have put 2 in his head. So if I can make a difference I will no matter religion race or sexual preference.

Yet I could not confront that cocksucker because I was a female. I swear I would have put 2 in his head. So if I can make a difference I will no matter religion race or sexual preference.

No my orginal question was if he often wondered weather or not the government should fight there own battles "

Government right or wrong do not fight without our values to support that institute. Any of these amazing vets and current can can contest to that fact. We do not see color as everyone assumes. Integrity. These women and men deserve that they will take a bullet for their convictions. We fight as a unit for the greater good. So tell me should I have pulled my M4 and put 2 in that warlord or shown restraint which I did in the hopes that the population gets that it's wrong. Which is justice applied. My co threatened them.Shooting him does nothing. Telling the story to others under that threat it iss much more powerful.

I dont know you kinda come across like a robot rehursing a script or phrases the military have imbedded into you, I dont think I will get an intellectual thought provoking conversation out of you in the kinded way possible.

Yes you support the values of the institution because they lie to you as I said eairler, among other things like saying the invasion of Iraq was voted on because of the lie that they had weapons of mass destruction. Or that because the twin towers was blown up by "terrorists" that was likely you're own country. He'll even bin ladan was an agent of CIA before he went "ROUGE"

You're country has a track history of war crimes its self like the extermination of the ingenious Indian people. Christopher Columbus didn't find you're great country the indigenous people did.

And I'm sorry for the situations you have had to witness due to you're government. maybe if these country's you witnessed these crimes happen in had a chance to prosper it would have time to scrape its self off the floor and sort its own society out.

As tzu sun said in the "art of war",

The art of war is governed by 5 constant factors to be taken In to consideration, these are, 1. the moral war, 2. Heaven 3. Earth 4. The commander, 5. Method and discipline.

1. Moral war - the moral law causes people to be in complete accord with their ruler,

So that they will follow them in to war without regard for there own lives undismayed by any danger. (This covers your drivel about voting for support for the institute that of without have displayed perfectly)

And I need not explain the rest of the points as its irrelevant to the discussion

So your history lesson is technically moot. colonialism attempts well they are historical blunders that effect societies today. Not the US we leaving remember. Proud of u. Your integrity is strong braging about bombs dropping this istance. Target confirmed and all that for the greater good you know nothing about. You don't even know what you're fighting for, did you know before the invasion of Iraq there was no central banking system. There, with other places such as Cuba, and North Korea. Only. Oh well conveniently there was soon after, but you was fighting because of weapons of mass destruction right? Plus ever since the invasion of Iraq the availability of herion on British streets rocketed. And when people leave the war due to injury they get jacked up on opioid pain killers perceptions and feed into an economy for something that fucks them in the long run.

But yes you are completely right about british colonialism as I said democracy is backwards and an illustration that has us all dancing to its merry song.

22 years served in the RN, loved it!

Gulf war, Telic 1, Kosovo… then a few decent deployments to W. Indies, Far East, Med to name a few.

Left over 10 years ago, still miss elements of naval life, particularly the social life lol

"Yes mate I served 12 years as infantry. And similar doing security. Hope you’re having a good day

Democracy is fucked and we are sold a lie, and it's mostly people like you that suffer unfortunately.

Oh and when we did sell the bombs to Saudi guess who brought a fuck load of shares in the arms trade, thereasa mays husband how convenient.... for them big profit in funding both sides of a war. Its been done since Napoleonic times when war bonds where sold

Does integrity not mean having strong morals, does shooting other people in the name of other people's lies or agendas and saying well I'm here to do a job not wash your own integrity away?"

Do I ever wonder if the people I go to fight for are pieces of shit? Yes of course I did, I also felt the same about the pieces of shit at hone labelling me a baby killer. People like yourself only see or read something that suits their own narrative. If course NATO has made mistakes and occasionally it’s been over oil (Iraq)

But you fail to see other actions that have been proven right. Bosnia in question, for 4 years the United Nations failed to stop the onslaught and the following genocide. So NATO stepped in and on the swap over in winter 95 it stopped

Because the Serb army watched the white peacekeeping colours switch to battle green and new the following day we Could intervene abd stop what was happening.

Ive been back to Bosnia since then abd see a emerging country. It still has tensions of course it does. But the NATO coalition stopped in one night what the United Nations failed to do.

We did the same in 98/99 with Kosovo too.

The same time Bosnia was going thermal with genocide an African nation was also under the watchful eye of United Nations peacekeeping force in Rwanda, they stood by and Dai kg Ed to watch a mass genocide that killed 20% of its citizens in less than 100 days.

Am I happy I’ve served and fought. Yes am I happy am I proud of the guys to served with yes very. Do I think Iraq was a mistake yes! Do I think Afghanistan was… no but we stayed there far to long. Most Afghans want to run there own affairs. But it has always been tribal… but in the 50-60s Afghanistan was one of the most forward thinking Middle Eastern countries. Children had high levels of literacy and girls were allowed education.

That stopped and what followed was huge oppression under the Taliban from the end of the Russian occupation. Instead of looking at conflicts you personally disagree with. And make your assumption we are all sheep. Look at the other involvements we are involved with and have bought about peace.

I have never been a sheep. I left the army in 2007 and ive been working in mist of the troubled spots of the world since then. And I’ve worked in countries with no western involvement that are massively corrupt and oppressive. And are just run by the greedy and manipulative heads of state that took power abd continue to hold it.

That’s just human nature of some that want control through any means.. and they exist and it’s not a western influence. It’s just mans inherent greed and lust for more.

It’s easy to sit in a safe country and point fingers and call people lambs to the slaughter! It’s harder to accept that the human race can be a brutal bunch off people. It’s even harder to put yourself in harms way to stop it happening.

Does that answer any of your questions?

Yes it does beautifully so thanks, I was just genuinely interested to hear you're point of view, thanks for putting it foward there's no doubt you do a great job in certain situations there never really is a perfect awnser to these things it's true humans arnt a great species really at all and we do need protecting from our selves, but also from the people in charge, the likes of W.H.O who will engage in false flag attacks, or write up false reports to condem a future action. Or the white helmets who will keep unrest active in an African continent for blood diamonds, or American officials that will pass bills to test phyoactive drugs on unbeknown military personnel for research in possible mind control substances. MKULTRA. and many many many more. But like I said to the other couple I can not take one ounce of bravery or dedication to service away from you. growing up it was all I wanted to do was to be in the army, I dont know if it was all the toy guns, action men, little green army people, and cool movies I watched or the feeling my lack of school grades and not believing I was good enough for anything else or my shitty up bringing that made me want to be I'n the most dangerous situations possible just to see if I would die or not that made me want to be I the army, but I'm dam well glad I didn't once I was able to think for my self properly. Arm the parliament and send them out if they want to create wars, maybe then they will choose what ones to fight more wisely, there's no honor in warfare any more, and it will only get worse. Unmanned drones, hellfire missiles, soon it will be robots and systems with no feelings that do the killing then the militarization of space where does it stop?

For as long as we all sit around and tickle each others balls telling each other how well we did and build a sense of false patriotism for a country that couldn't really give a fuck about you, and forget, or are unaware of the serious questions to ask ourselves how will we progress? I dont expect I can change the world but any bit of awareness on things people generally bury there head in the sands about because it doesn't affect them is not a bad thing in my book.

Agreed.

My daughters' father was forces, and I have dated someone enlisted.

Lets get back to appreciation, rather than the negativity, we all are aware of the politics but that wasn't the intent of this thread xx

Respect to him and to you too, without the support of family we wouldn’t have something at home to fight fir or return to.

It’s just a shame other people have to jump a thread to voice their political opinions on guys and girls that have served.

As a veteran myself I personally like having my balls tickled "

Guilty pleasure right, it doesn't fall on only veterans I to enjoy my balls tickled

You’re not changing anything, you’re just trying to antagonise people. You’re 26 and as entitled to your opinion as much as the next person. But I joined the army in 94 and have served all over the world. With that’ll lll army service and being a PMC I’ve done this life for 27 years. I don’t ever go into a role in any country without reading an history book on the nation I’m going to. I’ve a very good knowledge on every theatre I’ve been too. You should try it! If you think the west! Or even this little nation is so bad I’d suggest going to eek out an existence in a country that doesn’t recognise borders.

Afghanistan is one,

China and Russia are others

They only recognise there own and care little of others.

Don’t look at the army as a mindless entertity, we are all free thinking and do it because we also save lives as well as take them… I find it sad you think the way you do about the military. But it’s each to there own and I redirect your opinion. But we won’t ever change each other’s?

There’s something about having served that always brings you together that civilians might think they understand but never will. It’s nit just about serving your country. It’s about looking out for one another and having shared the same experiences, even generations apart

It is very upsetting for me to see this post trashed by political views. I'm here to publicly thank my husband and every single other it applies to xx

Worthing

Not me personally but both grandfathers saw active service in ww2. One was in the Africa campaign and the other in Europe. As you can imagine, neither talked much about it.

Not here for politics. Yeah the system is flawed but somebody has to serve and I’m proud of my brothers and sisters. In the last year alone they have done so much good helping NHS. I personally haven’t done anything of note yet so I don’t really wanna take an praise but I’ll be fucked if I’ll stand by and do nothing when I can do something

somewhere, someplace

My ex fil and his brothers are all Falklands vets and he served in N.I too before he was medically discharged.

The shit he saw and the light that disappears behind his eyes when it's mentioned I feel for him and he deserves all the recognition he gets x

"Happy armed forces day to all those who have or are serving. Anyone on here been in the military? I’m army reserves myself.

After a whole month of having LGB or whatever it's called rammed down our throats... Happy armed forces DAY. Be interesting to see how many companies support or acknowledge armed forces day... Not many I don't suppose. "

Not all LGB support this in your face rainbow flag pride parade stuff for your information, plus plenty support the armed forces in various ways. Hope that clarifies

Can’t find who was complaining about month but there’s plenty of amazing LGBTQ+ people in the army. 2 in my section alone including my section 2IC. I didn’t start this thread to complain about other people. Just a bit of recognition for my brothers and sisters in the armed forces. Also it’s Armed forces week but Saturday is usually the main day for events because it’s a weekend day.

I have known plenty of LGB who have served in the armed forces or support charities like me, it is sinister when people try to whip up resentment this way. I am not a flag waver or fan of overt political correctness, but something like this has to be challenged. Anyway respect to all veterans and serving members of the armed forces, always have my support and gratitude
