This has happened to me once before, miraculously.
Guy in my inbox has attached pics.
They’re not of him.
They are actually of a male friend of mine (who does a bit of modelling).
What are the chances right?
How do I play this? Tell him straight out that I know he’s a fraud? Play it along for a bit? Report?

I called someone out on this before and their response was 'well got me through the door hasn't it'
Models pictures are clear to see, I don't know how they get approved. Report and block |

Jeeze. What goes through people’s minds??
Regarding the pics, they’re not typical model photos, he has a bit of a following on Instagram so I think they’ve been pinched from there. |

Oh Crikey the amount of scammers and fakes on here(and dating sites in general) are shocking. As soon as I sense something isn't right , just delete and block. A few times I did play along just to tickle them. However I do feel sorry for them, because you know they generally come from poor countries. And life must be hard for them. But lies and deception is very wrong. |

Does your mate who's a model know you are on fab?
If so, arrange the meet with the catfisher, and say to meet him inside a pub in one of the alcoves, somewhere where he can see you but can't see your friend sitting opposite you.
Then when he arrives, he'll come across, introduce himself.
You can look all confused and say "but I'm already chatting to *insert name*, he's here!" pointing at friend.
Then see what his reaction is when faced by his bluffelganger... |

He doesn’t! But he also lives in my hometown miles from here so as funny as that could be, logistically it wouldn’t work! But I’m here for these kind of ideas! |

If you have a pic of your friend and you together, send it to Captain Catfish saying did he remember this being taken? |

hiding from cock pics. |
I had a similar situation and while ago, I said how nice it was to see him back on here again, and pretended I knew him as the model and that I believed the profile really belong to the model.
I said this time I'd love it if two of my female friends could join us and I will meet him at the same place as always at 7pm drinks.on me. |

I think this is it, I’ve watched too many episodes and I’m trying to stage an intervention! I should really just let sleeping dogs lie |

It could be fun but really it is a block and report.
I might though be tempted to send him a picture, as previously suggested, of your friend so he knows he has been rumbled
Also please don't agree to set him up meeting him, if he is this devious and dishonest then heaven knows what he would be like if confronted |

I’d play along. Play all interested and eager. Cause whilst you’ve got his attention, he’s not scamming someone else. |

Reporting and blocking does little as they just pop up again under another pseudonym. I always cam them after couple of days anyhow, so it sorts out the fakes. |

This is actually something I've been thinking about recently.
With the success of this platform comes drawbacks. We're all plagued by catfishers, time wasters and wannabes.
How do we as a collective group address this or support the platform with ideas or forms of ing out these 'fakes' |

We conversed on another platform (no personal details shared), I asked for a verification pic and let him list an array of reasons why he was unable to supply one… took him around the houses for a while and got his hopes up a little before advising he stop catfishing and learn to love himself and be true.
Then reported and blocked. |

I suppose the picture verification process is a step. But once “picture verified” is there anything stopping you deleting your first picture and uploading a load of images of someone else? |

Oh god I’ve had this before. Someone was using this guys pics for years and totally fooled me enough to wanting to meet the guy. He even managed to do ‘live’ pics on Kik but he must have been taking a picture of a picture.
The guys who’s pics he was using had posted on a Facebook page called prick patrol and said that it is not him that’s on all these sites.
I got talking to the real owner of the pics and even met him for a coffee but I found that I preferred him when I was chatting to the fake person using his pics! |

Oh to answer your question. Go along with it for a while and honour him to the point where you’ll say you’ll meet then drop in that you know the actual person. |

It’s mad how common it is! Facebook as much as I hate it always seems to come into play when figuring it out though.
Scary how they’ve started mastering the art of live pics, it must be so much time and effort!! |
