I prefer the toasties from Costa. But I prefer the filtered coffee in Starbucks and the free refill… and the fruit toast lol
Coffee Nero is a good coffee too |

Of those two always Costa.
But independents are better or cafe nero. It’s just that there is a costa within walking distance from my house and in the hospital where I am most weeks so I’m racking up my Costa points |

Of the two, Costa for various reasons - they're a British founded company, their loyalty scheme is better (and doesn't expect you to deposit money with them to get the interest to use it), their UK tax contributions aren't questionable. |

I go in both chains because you can guarantee a large chain coffee shop is wheelchair accessible most of the time (excluding a few branches of Café Nero) whereas there are a lot of independent coffee places (and other hospitality venues) in Manchester that are not accessible. For example, Bundobust (Indian street food) states quite categorically on its website that it is NOT accessible and there is no disabled access. Lovely |

This is such an issue! Do you think its a matter of money/rent or ignorance/not quite thinking it through?
My mind is set towards inclusive and accessible everything.. It's the nature of my work so I'm tuned in. It's naive of me to think that people setting up business ventures would automatically think of these things from the get go.
It's so disappointing.. and a good reason to head for more established chains who know their responsibility.
Meh. |

"Out of curiosity are your a Starbucks junkie or a Costa junkie ..
And do you like the drive through ?"
I've never understood what's the appeal of these places. How people so much need thier daily coffee fix. I'm on holiday in Greece now, it's my fourth week and all I drink is milk, fruit juice or water. |

Starbucks is as vile as McDonald's, I prefer Neros but as we all know, we all like different things.
If there's a Pret nearby, I'll pop in there with my refill cup and get a brew for 49p cos I'm tight like that. |

I don't know what it is to be honest. I've wondered if it's the power of the large chains paying for adaptation to venues. The fact chains have outlets in modern malls as well as old buildings in, say, the Northern Quarter type places. Or that the publicity of Starbucks or Costa obstructing access would be damaging. My local high street is almost 100% not accessible. Local councillors keep trumpeting about supporting the high street but have no reply when you say "I can't get in the businesses". I just head to Manchester and find accessible places or use the supermarket over the butcher, baker and candlestick maker locally. I can't go on a train though (can't get down the steps onto the platform ) |

I know, which is why I said "British founded" - the other points still apply though |

"Coffee is coffee x"
Go wash your mouth out !
With a cup of coffee
Tbh I don't like either, as I find the roast to be too middle of the road
I like a variety of stronger roasts otherwise the taste buds get stale, at the moment I have a great Ethiopian arabica in my jar |

Out of the two, it's Costa. Starbucks kill it for me on ethics.
I prefer Pret, though there are none nearby, so that's always a draw when I'm travelling.
Cafe Nero's acoustics are dreadful - I don't care how good their coffee might be, I can't stand the noise!

"Neither... I don't get the hype or need to get a coffee everytime you leave the house "
It’s nice at a rest stop on the motorway. I actually choose stops with Costa. |

"Can I choose McDonald's?
Do they have McCafe in the UK? I hadn’t noticed before but they make divine hot chocolate!!
"
I have a Costa once a week or so. The drive through is right next to McDs.
It always makes me smile that McDs have a huge banner facing exactly where you sit at the drive through, advertising their 99p coffee... |

If stuck between the two with no alternative, definitely Costa - and then the more expensive option. Their standard coffee just tatses like mud to me (I only drink black Americanos). Much prefer Caffe Nero or an independent. |

"Out of curiosity are your a Starbucks junkie or a Costa junkie ..

Depends. If I’m having the only coffee I like (coconut flat white with caramel) then it has to be costa. If I’m having a cuppa tea, then it’s Starbucks all day long.

Out of those two, Costa for their new mini flat white, but I prefer Nero.
Never used a drive through |

"Give them both a swerve and support your local businesses instead. You can taste the difference. "
I will, for accessible venues, but my local high street independent cafés all have steps to get inside and the seating areas upstairs. I use a wheelchair. |

Never used a Starbucks or a Costa.
If I am out and about local (Northamptonshire) I will use the locally owned chain Bewitched, if I am out of the area it has to be Cafe Nero. |

Of those two then Costa, but the coffee isn't upto much. Only ever get it in service stations. Of the big chains Cafe Nero has the best coffee, but like people have said use the independents. Rhode Island in Stockport is a small chain (others in Oldham and Alty I think) and the coffee is damn fine. |

"If I had a choice. Would be an independent coffee shop.
But I think Starbucks if I had to choose between the 2 you mentioned. "
Independent ones are better. Always try to keep them in business but when your constantly on the move the chains have the advantage because you know you can get your coffee fix. That's how they get the money business people |
