UEFA have banned the Allianz arena in Munich of lighting up their stadium in a rainbow coloured show of solidarity of equal rights due to it being a political gesture. UEFA obviously picks and chooses when something is political or not. Maybe looting, rioting and statue dethroning will get their attention. |

Not really, it is a political gesture. The Germans made that decision. They also haven’t banned it but have suggested alternative dates for it. |

"LGBTQI+ rainbow? "
Yep. It's in response to Hungary's new rules banning anyone under 18 from any content seen as promoting homosexuality and gender change because, you know, you can catch that stuff. |

I'm presuming you missed the bit where uefa offered alternative dates which align better with existing events? |

Yeah, when the eyes of the world won't see it. It's a bit like saying I'll only be racist when no black people are around. |

Better align? It's coloured bulbs. Equality is every second of every day, not just on a cold wet Tuesday morning. |

I think that Hungary banning the sharing of any content seen as promoting homosexuality and gender change to under-18s is the type of banning that we should be debating.

This is that thread. It's why the Germans wanted to light up the stadium as they're playing Hungary. It's all mentioned above in actual words that you can read. |

I know, right. A guy came out today and became the first openly gay NFL player. It's great for representation but still sad that it's so rare that it's actual news. |

You’ve titled it UEFA and talked about banning the lighting up of a stadium. Nowhere in the original post did you mention Hungary or it’s recent law changes.
Unless you wrote it in invisible ink? |

So here's an update... When you appreciate the fact uefa don't want to upset Hungary because Hungary are helping uefa out.. It puts a bit more context on it. I guess that's what happens when you open the door and mix sports and politics.
On Tuesday, Uefa said they would not sanction the Allianz Arena in Munich to be lit up in rainbow colours ahead of tonight's Euro 2020 group game between Germany and Hungary.
They said the request was clearly a political move by the Munich Mayor directed at the Hungarian Government, which has recently introduced anti-LGBT legislation.
The decision provoked widespread discontent and allegations that Uefa were cosying up to the Hungarian FA, who have allowed capacity crowds into games and stepped in to host the 2020 Super Cup final at a time when few countries were willing to.
Interestingly, Juventus and Barcelona put rainbow-related posts on Twitter in support of the LGBT community after Uefa had made their decision.
Juventus and Barca are still in dispute with Uefa over the European Super League. |
