"I have done but think it contributed to putting my back out. Have always been able to sit in the full lotus position though."
Ha! I can’t do that, and I do yoga. Doesn’t it strengthen your back? |

My osteopath had an interesting theory on yoga - it's more to do with how you're built whether you can do the positions fully or not.
She said I had loose hips. It wasn't my back that went but my hips went out of alignment and wrenched my lower back muscles.
Did karate at school and one of the warm-ups was the lotus position. First time I just did it with no effort and legs completely flat on the floor. |

If you're hypermobile I can see it being easy to go too far in yoga poses. |

What’s everyone’s favourite pose?
I love puppy pose and I’m crap at this one, but dancer’s pose is great too.
( I love yin the most as I feel so stretched afterwards ) |

That must be frustrating, can you modify?
I tried but I it didn't really work! I went for alternative forms of exercise instead "

International Yoghurt day I can get on board with "
Yoga whilst covered in yogurt?
It’s very good for increasing flexibility ![](/icons/s/biggrin.gif) |

you don't start with that super fancy scary stuff
The way my back is today I'd struggle to put my socks on
Grumps - you need to start with some gentle yoga, and see if it helps
Wouldn't know where to start "
You can find all sorts of beginner yoga tutorials on YouTube, or Amazon Prime/fire stick ![](/icons/s/biggrin.gif) |

Angel is absolutely right Grumps, however with existing issues, especially when doing it unsupervised, it's very, very, very important to not try too hard! Go very, very slowly, and if you have the slightest twinge, stop and rest, and try a different pose. You could probably find a beginner session online aimed especially at those with back issues. Good luck! |

"Keep thinking I should do something, what’s the difference between yoga and Pilates, they look very similar "
They are very similar, the main difference I think is that Pilates is about physical strength, alignment and mobility, whereas yoga is about all those things AND mental well-being, grounding, and affecting holistic positive change. Yoga can also have a spiritual element if you so choose. Yoga is an incredibly versatile practice with emphases ranging from HIIT and highly aerobic styles, to much gentler, more restful relaxation and meditative styles. I'm desperate to give acroyoga a go myself, though this seems highly unlikely to be possible anytime soon! |
