"Am working 5 8 hrs days given the option I would rather work 4 x10 hour days get it done more spare time agree disagree "
I used to think that way.
I work 12 hour shifts and used to think it was great cos I only had to work 3 days a week and would get the other 4 off.
Then they asked me to add an extra shift to my week so then I was contracted to 4.
Then they asked me to do another job role in the company on top of what I’m already doing.
So now I just work and work and work and at some point I might get a day off ![](/icons/s/mrgreen.gif) |

I am of the same mindset, but my job demands 5 day cover
The fact I could do 5 x 10 and still not catch up speaks volumes
I leave work at 5pm with all enquiries opened and either answered or the groundwork started
I can come in at 8.30 the following morning and have 40 new emails to get through before that days fun & games even kicks off
I'd say on average I get 120-150 emails a day plus we are each targeted to answer a minimum of 25 phone calls per day
You are constantly chasing your tail in Technical Sales

I did nights at Amazon over Christmas, basic 4x10 hours. I was happy to get work done and have 3 days off. I was good for nothing on those work days other than sleeping. The work was long and boring though. I valued the consecutive days of free time over everything else. I only did it short-term though so it may drag you down over time. |

If you think you’ll be happy doing a 10 hr shift, then yeah makes sense.
Cuts down your travel costs and gives you an extra day to do other things.
Only you can know if if that is sustainable for you.
I very seldom do less than 10 hrs, it’s usually 14/15 and anything up to 18, I’m good with that but not everyone would be.

Depends on what you do.
If you really are a busman - I don't want a day without buses cos all the buses were on 4 days instead of 5.
If you are making nuts for bolts then it's fine to do it all in 4 days. |

I work 4 day weeks, the company are trying to put us back on 5 though...
Everyone in my workplace prefer the 4 days even though we work that wee bit longer each day.
Our days off rotation gives us a 5 day long weekend every 3rd week ![](/icons/thumb_up.png) |

I used to do 5x 8 hours then switched to 4 x 10. It was nice having an extra day off but it could be very tiring especially when there were problems with the commute. |

I’d like the 4x10 option. I cover quite a few time zones so take calls between 7am and 7pm anyway but take a siesta or go out shopping, gym, meet friends regularly in the day. I prefer “always on” method of work , it’s a really good work/life balance. When I used to work 9-5 I could never get anything done in the daytime |

Work for myself minimum 60 hrs a wk these days used to do 100hr wks for many years luckily I enjoy my job but starting to do less, at least 14 he days this time of the year and come harvest more, intend to not work wknds after oct but time will tell if it happens.
If it was a choice of 4 ten hour days or 5 eight hours it would be four days everytime |
