When is a profile too long?

We have all seen empty or the ubiquitous “will fill in later” profiles, which give absolutely no idea as to what a person is or isn’t looking for. But when is a profile too large? Do we really need to know that you grew your baby teeth and 8 months and once you borrowed your next door neighbours dads bike?

I prefer longer profiles (says me who wrote war and peace) as it shows the person is willing to talk about themselves their likes and dislikes and I think it gives you insight ..... so for me the longer the better xxxx |

I think it’s a wholly subjective issue but for me, if you are looking at chapters and chapters of text. It’s a little off putting. It also means you have nothing to start a discussion on because every question has already been answered. |

Wrong, you can mail to say you notice they are seeking......a particular thing or type of person, then introduce yourself as possibly being who they seek. The mails can then continue clarification etc. |

I prefer a shorter profile. I looked at G's and Babs and they are the perfect length.
I look at it this way.
I am NOT interested in what YOU think about YOURSELF.
I'll decide what I think of you and NO amount of advertising gets past that.
We make our minds up very quickly about every aspect of life.
All I need is :- A pic ,clothed will do but I do need a face and general physique.
A chat on the phone. Maybe two but certainly at least one.
Some idea of sexual interests or at least let you know what you can and cannot expect from me.
I get so much from body language and attitude and modes of speech on the phone and in person.
So to be honest.... write war and peace it doesn't alter my way of working.
I'd never meet on the strength of what someone tells me about themselves. |

More than a couple of paragraphs is too long for me. Unless it's something funny. I talk to people like humans, not a sex tick list.
I also prefer private people, not the types who blab their entire sex life on their profile to thousands of viewers. |

Surely the whole point of fab is to match like-minded people. Those that like to share some detail will more likely attract those that are interested in some detail, and similarly the inverse.
We don't mind getting a 'Hi' message if the sender has a well written profile, but send a 'Hi' message with a single line profile and we'll know they're not for us as we like those that enjoy good communication. |

Prefer a shorter profile but I like to get a sense of the person behind the screen. Something that doesn't make me think I've read a variation of this 100 times before. And if you make me laugh then that's a winner. |

No such thing as a too long profile. As with everything here, it's a case of each to their own; our thoughts want's and needs are all going to have differences. Why is profile write up any different?
If someone is prepared to put the time and effort in to bang away on the keyboard, then I'm prepared to read to it all.
I also find/think, the majority of times, a longer profile is written with a sense of humour and wit that (for me) catches the eye. Case in point is @CrystalEyes123, it does say to make a cup of tea first, but I spat mine out reading; funny as fuck.  |

Must admit that there have been one or two profiles I've visited where the bio text has been so long as to be off putting.
Usually you get get a sense of whether you're likely to be compatible fairly early on, and if so, you'll invest the time to read it all the way through, but on other occasions, especially if it starts off negatively with a whole lot of 'don'ts' then I won't read further and it'll be a 'no' from me.
It's all about striking the right balance |

If a profile bio is the fab equivalent of a CV then the same rules should apply.
It's a proven fact that we want as much info in as few words as possible hence why a CV is more effective when written as bullet points and doesn't refer to me and I.
Making an effort doesn't have to involve writing a dissertation.
Personally speaking anything more than 5 or 6 sharp and to the point paragraphs and I'd move on to the next profile regardless of content.

For me it's more about the contents than the length. If a profile is entertaining then I'd prefer it to be longer, especially if it's making me laugh. But the second a profile gets ranty, I don't care how long it is because I'm not reading any further. |

People struggle to read profiles and you expect them to read the FaQs |
