"What are they "

In Portugal, pasteis are found on every street corner. ... They are distinguished from other pastéis de nata by their slightly salty and extremely crisp puff pastry – partly from being baked at 400C – and the custard, made only with milk, not cream, which is less sweet.

I never copy & pasted that from Google at all

They are one of the few pastries I don’t like and can resist them entirely - much prefer an English custard tart.

"What are they

Pastel de nata "

These Pastry of Creme.......

I don't like them being called custard tarts as they are so very different. Far more luxurious and calorific.

But essentially they are but with a custard cream and a flaky pastry.

Used to be a holiday thing. Now they are very commonplace.

Puffy pastry 600g

Milk 500ml

1 peel of lemon

1 cinnamon stick

Plain flour 60g

Water 250ml

Sugar 500g

With this measurement you are able to do 24 portuguese tartes minimum

The best! The most delughtful ones are made in a shop in Lisbon dedicated exclusively to churning them out in large quantities. They still use a recipe which is a closely guarded secret.

Oh to have a few with a good expresso
