According to a report using these third party people can be up to 44% more expensive than dealing direct with the food supplier.. that's pretty much Toms experience.. he only orders from takeaways with their own drivers..

Nobody likes a ripoff

But is it 44% easier ordering through the app than calling direct and getting the wrong order delivered?

"My deliveroo order arrived late and cold. When I rang the restaurant they said it was nothing to do with them but deliveroo.. "

They would say that wouldn't they.

You can track the order to see when it leaves. That makes it easy to see who's fault it is when it comes in late and then then you can complain to the right people.

Personally I've had loads of late, cold food through normal deliveries too.

Does the chippy offer an app for ordering, and an online menu? Does it offer order tracking?

Do you expect the Uber / Deliveroo service for free?

If you don't like it, don't pay for it simple.

Personally for the price of a beer, I'm happy with what they offer.

"Just eat has free delivery

So how do they make any money?"

They charge 10%of the order and a sign up fee (for the restaurant). They also take money to place the restaurant nearer the top of the list.

It's completely down to the restaurant how much they charge you.

So if the prices are the same, thats because the restaurant is taking less money.

Some restaurants charge more than the 10% for taking orders from them, so 'they' actually make more profit.

I believe Deliveroo is the same.

On 3 different occasions this year Just Eat did not deliver my food. On the first two occasions, they did not ring my doorbell. On the 3rd one, I was waiting outside the front door. The delivery person did not turn up. On all 3 occasions the tracker showed my food had been delivered. I had to wait for a couple of days for their investigations as the tracker showed the food had been delivered to my address. On the 1st and 3rd time they refused to refund me. On the 2nd time, they refunded me. Eventually I got my money. Appalling customer service. After the 3rd time, no more Just Eat.

East Northamptonshire

A lot of businesses will have signed up with Uber Eats, Just Eat and Deliveroo during lockdown, when they were doing offers of no setup fee and a period with no service charges, and the businesses needed a delivery service to have any chance of trade.

If you use their drivers then Just Eat and Deliveroo take whatever they charge the customer as delivery and service charge PLUS 36% of the order value from the restaurant. Uber Eats take the direct charged fees plus 30% of the order value.

If you order something lowish value, for £7 for example, off Just Eat then they will charge you something like £3.99 delivery fee + 50p service charge then take £2.52 from the restaurant.

For a total of £11.49 for the £7 item, the resturant gets £4.48 for that item and Just Eat gets £7.01, from which they pay the driver.

Lots of good reasons not to want to live in a city but delivery grub is not one

My local Indian takeaway used to charge £2 delivery within 12 miles. A taxi was £14.we would order a curry and jump in the taxi and get home with a curry for less than the cost of a cab off the rank

Well getting your flat broken in and done over, witnessing insane fatal bike and car crashes, getting cut up and roadraged by arseholes constantly, finding homeless peeps sleeping in your communal corridor, almost running into homeless people constantly at traffic junctions because they're getting ever more desperate, the constant traffic noise, the occasional throttle blipping hour long street cruise outside your window...

But also, curry in five minutes. Could be worse

On a mooch

I don’t use the other two just Deliveroo and to be honest in the city it’s not just takeaways, far from it. 90% of our local restaurants are on it along with all but two of the supermarkets, the independent corner shops, pubs, bakers and alike. There is not much I cannot get.

It’s been great this year, kept local businesses afloat and still continues now as they cannot fill their businesses to capacity. It works for all here.

Add its quick, easy, no hassle in getting issues resolved within minutes of talking to Deliveroo and the prices aren’t any different except they add on a small deliver charge if not part of plus and a small service charge which is miniscule, considering they have overheads and staff to pay.

I'd thought about that, boy never tried it.

When I was younger though, I did used to get a lift home with the cops.

They would stop me for looking so d*unk, but because I was polite to them they offered me a lift home (probably actually to save them getting a call out for me later).

Happened numerous times, and in a few different towns
