No idea but I wouldn't have thought so. I'm assuming with no actual knowledge that they're assigned a number. I've got family in the police force and they've never mentioned choosing their own number |

This and they are re used upon retirement. They are occasionally retired, when an officer is killed on duty for example. |

No they can't. It's a work ID number and you get allocated what's available when you join.
However, I know of a son who joined and asked could he have his retired dad's number. It was available at that time so they allowed it.
