Medical experts are saying that there is no such thing as fat but bit and want obesity classed as an illness. They can't decide on the effectiveness of 30 BMI classing people as obese.

It's so easy to be close minded when actually being obese can be an illness. Whether it be an addiction to food, eating disorder or emotional eating through trauma. Telling someone to just 'simply lose weight' doesn't cut it, you have to find the reasons behind why they are. The word fat is not helpful and no one has the right to comment on anyone's weight full stop

Fat is a thing though a component of everyone so I can see why they wouldn’t classify it as an illness. Obese, yea it isn’t good for the body so I can see why it would be classed as an illness which a number of variations like how cancer is an all encompassing word.

I think BMI isn't the ideal method to calculate obesity in all cases, such as athletes etc.

But I do think obesity is an illness, beyond the weight itself. There are countless things like mental health and injuries etc than can contribute to weight gain. It's not all about telling people you just need to move more eat less.

I am concerned what effects my weight will do on my joints or that just because I'm obese I've increased my chances of kidney disease by 66%.

Am I fat yes, am I gradually loosing weight yes and it's because my mental health is better and I'm making better lifestyle choices. Not because I'm doing anything specific. People judging and calling me fat, just makes me more depressed and more likely to go eat rubbish. So they actually contribute to my obesity. So people shouldn't comment on others weight unless they are their medically trained.

Obesity is an illness. Nobody would choose to be obese as a lifestyle choice.

Food is a bastard because its the thing that can make you overweight but it’s the thing that you do to comfort yourself when you feel bad about being overweight.

I’m an emotional eater. When I feel sad I’ll eat and I’ll eat shit.

Said it before and I'll say it again..... It is as unhealthy to starve yourself to 4 stone as it is to eat yourself to 40 but which one gets the most support from the public and from mental health providers?

People view being fat as simply being lazy and eating too much. No one considers the triggers for those.

Yes on the base of it calories vs calories out works but the mind of someone with a horrible relationship with food is just not able to sort that out.

I have been big my whole life. Over the last 10 or so years I've been fairly active but still remained big.

Personally I have issues with fairness of portion sizes, secret (in the car) eating, fear of feeling hungry etc.

I will plan trips around where I could stop to get certain foods I like. I will have fill on arguments with myself in supermarkets as to whether or not I can buy a tub of ice cream.

People look at me as a size 22, 19 stone woman and think ft slob yet I have complete 160 parkrun, have a box full of 5k, 10k, and half marathon medals. I have completed the London marathon. I have done several 50 mile bike rides. I have climbed snowdon. I can squat 135kg, bench press 72.5kg and deadlift 120kg. I do not give up.

But all people see is a fatty that they can take the piss out of and I'll tell you what....Not one person that has ridiculed me has spurred me on to want to lose weight. The only times I've ever tried is when I actually start to love myself as I am now, forgive myself as I am now and want to treat my body better.

Ive fallen off the wagon time and time again but I am far more than a plot line on a chart.

Not fully accurate. They are people that do fully embrace a certain body size/shape. Now, is it an illness that they view that? That is a whole other debate itself. Not one that I have the capacity to discuss.

There are other things that cause weight gain outside of eating incorrectly, and/or lack of exercise. Weight gain/obesity is a symptom of or caused by other illnesses. Or a side effect of certain medications.

It is unfair to say that those things are directly an illness. Or that they can easily be fixed by a good diet and exercise.

This is why it's far more complex that just fat is fat.

Unlike booze or tobacco or drugs food addiction is the one thing you cannot go cold turkey on as you need food to survive. But again, those who don't experience it cannot comprehend it and so claim it not to be a legitimate thing.

I work in a service that looks after lots of people that did things I couldn't even begin to understand yet I don't claim those things aren't real.

I've been struggling this past week. Ya know when photo memories pop up.

Seeing pictures of myself 3 and 4 years ago I was the happiest I've ever been with how I looked. Problem.... I wasn't good mentally. I wasn't making healthy life choices. I was starving myself but... I felt I had a tiny bit of control and I fucking loved it.

Now, I've put on a stone n half, I look in the mirror and don't like the cunt staring back at me. She's old, she's overweight and she's too fucking scared to do anything about it in case she fails at that too. So she sabotages herself even more by eating the wrong foods at the wrong times. She wants to have that tiny piece of control again, but knows for her physical and mental health it's a downward spiral, coz yeah, she looked awesome but needed vitamin supplements coz her bloodwork was dire and she really shouldn't have even been standing let alone working 16 hour days.

A lot of time, weight and mental heath go hand in hand, so I disagree, it can very much be medical

We are all so preoccupied with this bloody topic.

Why some people are “fat” and some are “average” or “skinny” can be for a multitude of reasons. Diet of course is a factor but so is body type, underlying medical conditions and eating disorders. Culturally our diet has changed massively over the last 50 years with the availability and affordability of processed foods and we are seeing the effects of that in our society.

Our views on people who are “fat” has also changed over the years. Somehow we now associate “skinny” with health, control and restraint when most skinny people are naturally skinny and don’t have to make an effort to sustain it. Where as “fat” is seen as a lack of control, gluttonous and unhealthy but most “fat” people weight is a continuous and often daily struggle to manage.

A little less judgment and a little more kindness is a start.

Pre-pandemic, and slowly happening again now, sitting on public transport as an obese person I have had people move seats as I have sat down or look at me in disgust that they feel they cannot sit down next to me due to my size.

I can honestly say their actions and disdain don't make me drop 5 stone instantaneously, all they do is make me cry inside. The crying doesn't help my mental health and the mental health then sends other stuff into a tailspin.

Like with many things in life until you have walked in the shoes of someone who suffers from anything it is difficult to comment on it.

Hang on, so if you're medically trained you can comment on people's weight? But if you're not, you can't.

Does this apply to all walks of life? If your cars broken you can't comment on it unless you're a trained mechanic, your boilers broke but you can't suggest an issue because you're not a trained gas engineer.

"Oh look at the blind cunt he can't drive for shit"

"well unless you are a optometrist that's a driving instructor you can shut up you dickhead"

"Omg, you have never had or owned a penis, calling me a dickhead is very insensitive"

"You blasphemous soul, taking the lord's name in vein"

"Soul....vein, don't you know I dentify as vampire?"

Seriously where does it end.

I don't give a shit if your fat, thin, tall, short, any letter of the alphabetti spaghetti brigade, some colour that is on a dulux chart. Just don't be a dick. Offensive is taken not given. Just wish more people remembered "sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me"

You're right - the disdain doesn't spur you on to lose weight. That's not to say that for some disparaging comments and actions will have that effect but on a personal, anecdotal level I know at my heaviest the thing that motivated me to lose weight was actually beginning to love myself and finding happiness within me. Food, like for posters before, is an emotional crutch and it takes years of work to do undo years of damage.

I agree with that last bit Hope. I don’t believe in the “everyone is entitled to an opinion” phrase. I think everyone is entitled to an education would be more apt, and one where they listen to understand. One where they hear from people who have lived it.

No one has the right to tell anyone they are fat.

No one person is better than the other in this world.

So many posts lately on fab are all about putting people down.

The BMI comment and calipers was a sensible comment. People register BMI obese levels that are not even overweight. Calipers measure fat.

The mirror comment was perhaps a little harsh. We could all look in an imaginary mirror from time to time.

It's a difficult subject because there is so much conflicting advice, it's hard to know what to eat for the best.

Sugar is addictive, without a doubt, and there is so much sugar pumped into food these days - it's scary when you read the labels. Why does my packet of chicken contain sugar?!

From my experience it's not just how little you eat but also what you eat that makes you gain fat. Eat too many carbs than your body can use and it will get stored as fat. A large plateful of green veg is not equal to a tiny piece of toast.

Ok, I will admit that there are cases of people that can eat very little and still put on weight, but in most cases even you have to admit that it is what people eat that puts weight on and the amount of exercise they do. Before anyone else has a go, I eat loads of chips and fatty foods, crisps and chocolate and drink about 2 litres of full fat Pepsi a day. I am lucky to have a very high metabolism so don't even need to exercise. I've never been over 14 stone in my life and I'm 6'4". I am not having a go at anyone who is what the doctors call obese, in fact I prefer a bigger woman. Obesity is pathological therefore an illness, defined by calculating the BMI.

Though it is flawed, it is still useful as a rough guide especially when taken with other parameters, in predicting potential risk to certain complications (hypertension, diabetes, coronary related diseases, respiratory diseases etc).

It is a simple guide that everybody can self calculate and may take pro-active measures or seek professional helps if they want to.

Underlying causes for the elevated BMI, though, should be professionally and thoroughly investigated.

.

I don't think 'Fat' is an illness.

In relation to physical appearance, it is just a word to describe certain appearance and very subjective with no clear guideline or objective definitive criteria.

Is the issue really that we don't know we have an unhealthy composition or is it that we know the answer... Anyway you want to measure it... But we really struggle to activate good habits and do something about it?

I mean does anyone really not know that a plate of green veg is better for them than 4 cans of Stella and a bag of crisps? Or is it that we find it really hard to make the right choices and that deliveroo won't deliver 2 cabbages but are happy to send us a xxxxl stuff crust pizza with 2l of full fat ?

Or when we shop at supermarkets we don't find bags of carrot batons or an apple near the checkout but a 2 for 1 on cadburies fruit and nut (one of your 5 a day) and a litre can of monster ....

"Obesity is an illness.

I agree.

And this is why obesity is its own epidemic, food is a part of life and an addiction to it is much harder to tackle than your usual cigarettes or alcohol.

It is often looked down on by health professionals who think that one rule fits all which is eat less move more not realising that there are huge psychological factors that cause people to find it difficult.

Eating and even overeating.... is not an illness.

Addictive behaviour, as the term suggests, is by definition something you know you should not be doing as it causes you problems in your life, your health and general well-being. But you cannot control it and that is the issue.

Neither food nor eating are per se inherently bad but addictive, eg emotional eating is a symptom of underlying dis-ease.

Hence, obesity (bulimia, anorexia etc) are classed as illness.

Yes. That's why there are stop smoking clinics and medication to help people stop smoking and therapies available on the NHS.

"BMI is a bullshit measure.

Better with a set of calipers and someone who can use them.

Or a mirror

Well I can tell you now I don't need to look in the mirror to know that I am obese. I can tell by many things that I do. I can also tell by the actions and comments of those around me.

My point I guess is that if your overweight you don't need anyone to tell you you can see it or as you say, know it yourself. Your either then happy with it or your not.I don't judge it's the individuals choice.

The BMI comment and calipers was a sensible comment. People register BMI obese levels that are not even overweight. Calipers measure fat.

The mirror comment was perhaps a little harsh. We could all look in an imaginary mirror from time to time.

I don't like BMI. It doesn't account for above average muscle mass, I am obese according to BMI. Sorry you feel the mirror is harsh but I believe the mirror to be an excellent guide rather than scales. Many people get caught up on magic number on the scales rather than how they look and feel.

All the shit food is cheap as while buying organic well sourced food is out of reach

"If obesity is an illness, then does that mean smoking is an illness too?

I was unaware that cigarettes were needed to sustain life.

I didn't realise that unhealthy, high calorie foods were either."

But not all fat people are fat because of eating unhealthy high calorie foods.

Many fat people have poor eating habits such as eating one meal a day, skipping breakfast, or not eating regularly enough. All of that can contribute to becoming overweight due to the bodies metabolism slowing down which makes weight loss a lot harder.

Not to mention actual physiological issues such as insulin resistance or pcos etc both of which I have. And which make it difficult (not impossible) to lose weight. Eat less, move more is fine but it's more accurate to eat right for your body and move more.

If I eat high carb meals, ebmven within my calorie defecit I will feel hungry just an hour later as my body doesn't deal with carbs in the 'normal' way and I have lots of hungry insulin running through my body wanting soemthing to do so my brain tells me to eat more.

Also people saying BMI is rubbish don’t understand it, it’s a tool to see body index, not how fat you are. Everyone’s heart is the size it is proportional to their body. BMI is more a measure on how much stress your heart is under supplying the size of your body with blood.

So yes, even if it’s all muscle, your still overweight and by medical standards, putting too much pressure on your heart and would benefit being smaller

I was unaware that cigarettes were needed to sustain life.

I didn't realise that unhealthy, high calorie foods were either.

There you go assuming that it’s that simple.

I wasn't assuming anything, I just made a point.

But you haven’t

I did, you can live quite easily on a low calorie diet. You don't HAVE to eat high calorie food to sustain life as you put it.

Why do you assume that it is all high calorie food that causes you to be fat? Do you think that all fat people use their little chubby fingers to force 12000 calories per meal into their mouth?

So far today I have eaten two slices of granary toast. Would still take copious amounts of Sky remotes to measure around my belly though.

I was only pointing out that if you call obesity an illness because you can't help eating, smoking has to be an illness in the same respect.

I understand where you are coming from. Addictions are labeled as an illness such as alcoholism. So I see where you are going with smoking. "

Thank you

As has been said... For many of us... We know we are overweight.(and underweight is an issue too but not as many suffer with it) We know what a healthy weight would be for a typical person...and yes we know there will be variations for individual cases. Weather we use BMI or callipers or scales or anything else...we know. I don't believe that knowing we are overweight is the issue generally. I think it's what we do when we are armed with that knowledge...deciding to acknowledge it is an issue

.. And then taking actions to make changes... Its hard.

"If obesity is an illness, then does that mean smoking is an illness too?"

Obesity in itself isn't an illness.

but it can be made worse by illnesses or on the other side of the coin, obesity can be the root cause of many ailments, illnesses, diseases. Take type 2 diabetes for example.

Obesity is a symptom of a problem. Not the problem itself.

My problem was that I ate way too much highly processed sugary and fatty foods.

After consciously making substantial changes to what I put in my mouth, my excess weight is slowly shifting.

You have to make a real shift in your mindset before the pounds will shift off of your body.

I think you should be able to discuss weight but it should be done with tact and so that there is a positive outcome. If no one asked you to comment on their weight then hush. If someone asks for help with weight issues be tactful, supportive and work on a healthy process. A little kindness goes a long way.

If there's a water leak, stopping the water flow or turning it down to a trickle ain't gonna fix it long term. The pipe itself needs time, care and attention, or the problem won't get properly solved, the water may get diverted but the pipe is still damaged and when the water gets turned back up it may spring a bigger leak.

I don’t think there’s any specific “topic” but rather someone repeating what they read or heard then attaching their opinion to it.

There’s nothing wrong with “standing up” against people wanting to join in on an unhealthy movement but it’s the way it’s done, take people who suffer with mental health and have suicidal thoughts for example, nobody thinks to jump in and be brutally honest right off the bat because we understand they’re vulnerable individuals who need help in the most empathetic manner possible.

Why is the same respect never given to people who struggle with their weight? “You’re fat eat less lose more” is never going to work for everyone nor is it progressive.

There are ways people can help without making the person they claim they’re trying to help feel worse than they already do.

There you go assuming that it’s that simple.

I wasn't assuming anything, I just made a point.

But you haven’t

I did, you can live quite easily on a low calorie diet. You don't HAVE to eat high calorie food to sustain life as you put it.

You’re not taking any into account emotional issues and peoples mental health.

When I’m feeling shit and sad if someone suggested I eat a salad instead of a pizza I’d kick their teeth down their throat.

Food has always been used as a comfort thing or a celebratory thing, someone’s birthday let’s go out for a meal, Xmas day let’s have a big fuck off dinner.

If you’re feeling depressed about your weight 9 times out of 10 you’re gonna eat more.

Love an on the spot made up statistic

I dunno what point anyone’s even trying to make here? Fat people are sad coz they’re fat so they eat which makes them fatter? Ok. Guess we should leave me to it incase we upset them?

Again if you’ve never been an emotional eater you won’t understand the love you have for bad food and how it can give you a temporary high.

Fair I just dunno how this plays into the topic? It’s a big thread so maybe I’ve missed some replies.

I think we need to stop handling health with kiddie gloves. Your fat, that’s all there is to it. We don’t care why or how you got there, we first from a medical standpoint agree this isn’t healthy and needs to change.

That’s what I thought the topic was about. There’s a growing “fat acceptance” movement where people try to refuse the claims from medical science suggesting that being fat isn’t a problem and lots of people are too afraid to stand up against them in heat of being labelled negatively "

I agree that I don’t believe being massively overweight should be celebrated but in the same breath people shouldn’t be made to feel ashamed of themselves. I’m a fucking horrible cunt sometimes and I’ve said many times how I look at peoples trollies in the supermarkets and when I see them full of all bad foods and see that the people are hugely overweight I do think we’ll you’re not really helping yourself there but that’s a snap judgment I make. It’s part of my personality that I don’t like about myself but if anyone ever asked me to help them to lose weight I would do it in a heartbeat.

I’d write meal plans, I’d tell them exactly what to eat, I’d tell them that it’s okay to have a day where you fall off the wagon and have a shit food day and I’d help them get back on the wagon.

You can’t give advice unless someone asks you for it. I learnt that on here before.

I think the first step needs to be brutal though. There’s groups out there saying “being fat can be healthy, some people can’t help being fat” etc etc

We need to stand up for the NHS and bat that shit away fast.

Now once you’ve made the point, that’s where soft care comes into playing. Working with people to help them lose weight in a healthy fashion.

But when people outright claim fat is healthy in a fat acceptance movement? We gotta be brutal

Missin’ Yo’ Kissin’

BMI is "Bolocks". Period!...

In fact there is no proper way to measure a person's weight... I've read countless articles in martial arts mags as well as fitness mags & books (alot), by doctors & experts in nutrition who came to this conclusion!

A buff 20 stone Rugby player would be considered obese/morbidly obese. As would Dwane "The Rock" Johnson.

I am not ripped but I ain't fat either. I'm stocky as I have done martial arts for many years!

I refuse to give my weight cos I know we (meaning my doctor and myself), are going to argue with one another at a yearly examination. I say it does not take into account very fit people's body mass/muscles & muscle structure nor does it take into account edderly peoples body types. They know this but still do a one - fits all system! Why?

If your under the BMI in a routine assessment a medical person would not necessarily go into that....

Bloody 'ell I have had a bit of a moan... in War & Peace length.

So, should have said there is not a proper way to look at weight & doctors know it! Fact cos my doctors shut up & get very annoyed with me.

I say to them stop doing a one-fits-all system. We are all different...

The very last thing a person struggling with their weight or an eating disorder needs... is being labelled and made to feel worse.

"Pull yourself" together does not help a depressed person anymore than "don't be fat -eat less" will help an overweight person.

I genuinely do not believe anybody wants or chooses to be obese.

This is just one circumstance I’m familiar with where a person chooses to be overweight. My sister is a psychologist and her area of expertise then is sexual assault victims. She works alongside the police as well and is on call 24 hours a day 365 days a year (along with other members that do the same job) if someone is attacked she is the one to take them in the tanker proof room, bag their clothes and swab them internally and be their whilst their exam is done, pictures etc. It’s a horrific process.

She deals with the aftermath of historical abuse, recent abuse, all kinds of sexual abuse.

*Some* of these victims both men and women it’s not limited to one sex, after surviving this kind of abuse they eat, they eat and they eat and they eat and they gorge and they eat and they eat some more. They want to make themselves as big as possible and in their minds as unattractive as possible, why, because they don’t want to be found attractive or assaulted again.

You think fat shaming them or telling them c’mon now fatty out the crisps down and have an apple instead.

It’s not going to work is it, there’s deep psychological issues there that need to be repaired before you can even begin to address the weight issue.

Nobody knows everyone’s individual back story on how they became overweight.

Newsflash...

We fucking know!

Fat acceptance isnt trying to make everyone fat, it isn't even saying I'm just going to be fat. It's about saying fat people exist whether you like if or not and are desetbing of just domd basic human decency.

You ding gavd to tell every day lerson you see that thrg are fat. You dint babe tk criticise every morsel of food that enters their body.

Do you know that thanks to people openly staring at me when I was little as I ate, pointing at me, giggling to their friends about me, I would be terrified of going up to a buffet first. I would try not to eat around people.

When I walked in to a local supermarket not long a go an old man shouted at me 'leave some in there for me, love'.

Fat people are allowed to eat and if we choose to eat a burger what difference does it make to you?

I'm sorry if I'm coming across as aggy but this is something that hits very close to home.

As I've said before, I'm quite am active fat person but all anyone seems to care about of notice if that I am (or have) fat.

Most of the people I know who are overweight know they are and not for one second do they think it's best for their health.

But do I think overweight people should be ashamed of themselves and hide away and not wear a bikini if they want to, absolutely not.

What you are reading into the body acceptance movement is very much different to what I read into it. I as an obese person see these people living their lives regardless of their weight. I therefore should be less fixated on mine and go out and do things. I then go out and go hike or so swim in the sea, I feel better about myself. So I don't eat that extra chocolate etc.

There’s a growing “fat acceptance” movement where people try to refuse the claims from medical science suggesting that being fat isn’t a problem and lots of people are too afraid to stand up against them in heat of being labelled negatively

But by not caring how of why people get there you're never really going to solve the 'problem' of people being overweight are you?

Dismissing emotional eating or any mental health aspect of overeating is just plsinlg ridiculous. You wouldn't dismiss the mental health of someone with anorexia would you?

I think you’ve messed entirely my point.

Dealing with that stuff comes after. First we need to be brutal and tell people with no ifs or buts. Being fat isn’t healthy. The fat acceptance movement is so reading false information.

It’s like if someone was addicted to drugs and there was a movement saying being addicted to drugs is healthy. You gotta get the facts straight first.

"This is just one circumstance I’m familiar with where a person chooses to be overweight.

That might be the saddest thing I’ve ever read. What a horrible outcome to an already horrible situation "

Yeah so do you think being brutal to them about how being fat is unhealthy would work with someone dealing with that kind of trauma?

"Obesity is often the symptom of an illness (usually a hidden one). Only the most ignorant of people fail to see that"

I disagree with this to an extent. Granted, there are some conditions that can exacerbate weight problems, but only if these weight problems already exist for the individual. The NHS website says -

"There are also some underlying health conditions that can occasionally contribute to weight gain, such as an underactive thyroid gland (hypothyroidism), although these types of conditions do not usually cause weight problems if they're effectively controlled with medicines."

I'm not sure that there is any condition that directly leads to obesity when approached with the correct medication intervention and a controlled diet.

I personally think if someone is clinically obese, then they should be offered professional help with psychologist, or nutritionist or what ever other demon’s they’re facing. I think categorising someone is a start… but I don’t think it’s the answer, weight management is the side effect, so simply saying eat less doesn’t work. However, offering support guidance and education will certainly help some.

The tough love I would probably adopt is if people want to be labelled as having an illness, they should be seeking the appropriate care to get better through referral, and if refuse to help themselves shouldn’t be classed as ill.

My opinion, touchy subject for fab this one!

"Medical experts are saying that there is no such thing as fat but bit and want obesity classed as an illness. They can't decide on the effectiveness of 30 BMI classing people as obese.

Tom has a simple test. If you look fat then you are fat...

Im.guessing a curvy girl said no to meeting you and your ego just cant take it.

"

Not sure it's anything to do with curvy... Which is a body shape. Not an indicator of anything else.

We gotta be brutal "

Ah, I get your point.

Being brutal to people who are leading others down deadly path I agree with, for example these new age organisations on Instagram claim to be about “body positivity” and yet you’ll find them bashing slim women who may moan about bloating or similar, and claim it’s for attention or when slim women talk about cellulite or having body issues. They’re bashed.

People like that everyone needs to stand against, but I don’t believe in being brutal to any one individual who is suffering, doctors tried that approach and it made me feel far worse when I walked out the room and what did I do? Comfort eat.

I’m not for any fat acceptance movement, they’re so damaging, not just to adults but to the younger generation up and coming, you can actually see it already happening.

Yet medical intervention is difficult to get. Go figure.

I have pcos. One condition than causes apple shaped bodies in women. Belly fat, one of thr most difficult to shift and one of the most dangerous as it is around your organs.

I went to the Dr numerous times as a teen and young adult about my weight. They knew the family history of pcos yet it still took years for me to get properly investigated for it.

Now some man is probably going to come along and try to discredit my lived experience and tell me that's not what happened. You watch.

"It's so easy to be close minded when actually being obese can be an illness. Whether it be an addiction to food, eating disorder or emotional eating through trauma. Telling someone to just 'simply lose weight' doesn't cut it, you have to find the reasons behind why they are. The word fat is not helpful and no one has the right to comment on anyone's weight full stop "

I think obesity is an illness when it gets to a certain point.

I think everyone knows being fat isn't healthy. But, you can be slim too and still be unhealthy.

I'm a big woman and I get shit from people who smoke, drink and eat nothing but crap and they have the nerve to sit there and shame me for my body.

Also, the fat acceptance movement as I know it isn't about how we should normalise being fat because it's good. It's more about we should let people be fat and let them live their life without constantly being shit on and shamed because they aren't up to the standard that society wants. We should treat them as equals, rather than as pigs. If you've ever been fat, you know exactly how cruel and ignorant people can be.

Where? I’m pretty involved with mainstream media and I’ve never seen anything that states being overweight is healthy.

I see lots of campaigns celebrating bigger people and telling them to be happy in their skin but nothing that states that being over weight is good for your health.

“You can be healthy at any weight” is often a slogan that gets thrown around.

Normal people take that as “there no weight requirement for living a healthy life. Pick better foods, do the exercise you can” etc etc

Then there’s groups that take that as “you aren’t literally the pinnacle of health even though your obese. It’s not your fault either, it’s just nature, and you can’t change it”
