That’s all of the first round of games done with the Group of death producing wins for Portugal and France over Hungary and Germany respectively.
Today sees the start of the 2nd round of games in Group A and Group B
After the opening draw Wales play Turkey in Baku, the crowd will be mostly Turkish and with Italy in Rome as the final game surely Wales will need to win this one against a side that really struggled in their opening game.
How are you Wales fans feeling about this one? Can the boys from the Valleys get to 4pts and virtually assure themselves of qualification into the knock-out stages?
My predictions for today:
Finland 0-2 Russia 2pm
Turkey 1-1 Wales 5pm
Italy 2-1 Switzerland 8pm |

Being pedantic, why is anyone from Wales invariably described as “boys from the Valleys”. It’s just one, relatively small, area .
In many ways, North Wales is the real stronghold of the support - three hours away from the The Valleys.
I’ll shut up now .
Turkey are good, I think we’ll struggle - the journeymen players will be exposed. We’re a small footballing country, and we’ve done well to get there.
Ymlaen Cymru, Yma o Hyd, Cofwich Dryweryn, Annibyniaeth Cymru (I’m just trying to outdo WalkingTaff in inserting iconic Welsh terms) . |

My gut is telling me that Turkey will be out for blood tonight. Turkey in Turkey is a tough prospect for most teams and I’ve a feeling that it’s going to be a hard game.
Finland O - Russia 1
Turkey 2 - Wales 1
Italy 3 - Switzerland 1

Yes we dont say Boyo up here in the land of the Gogs . The Hwntws mostly say Butt .
I hope he plays Ampadu so we can get the ball into midfield more . Take the game to the Turks

Anyway, we’re all Turkey now, aren’t we?
Just kiddin’ - up the Taffs!
(Yes, yes I know that ‘Taffs’ relates to the River Taff which only flows through a very small area of Wales .. ) |

"I'm still buzzing from Portugal's 3-0 win yesterday, even if it did come late
I agree with Tea's predictions for later, including the scores "
It’s a good job that I was sitting down when I read that! |

Mam bach Taff as a proud hwntw I don't use butt either, though am a county bumpkin
Not sure of the result, but I'd love for us to progress like we did last time. Was so amazing to see so much support for the team on a level unseen previously. C'mon midffîld! |

I'd like to see Bale break into a jog and live up to the hype...no goals in 12 games.. I'd like to see Wales win..... But.... Turkey at home and in the heat (its pretty much a home fixture) is going to be tough.
Heart says Wales win one nil but head says Turkey win 2 1. |

Did the Welsh turn up without their kits and had to use the Australian one in lost and found? |

"I actually like the Australia kit a lot. It’s a nod to our most iconic kit, which we wore in the late 70s, with the yellow/green trim (I don’t recall an earlier Wales kit having it)."
Portugal have the best kit if the tournament |

Well done Wales, as good as qualified for the knockout stages with that win!
Turkey were rubbish but who cares!?
Can they do a 2016 and go deep into the tournament? Looking good for them ... |

Great win for Wales…. A win for Italy tonight and the Welsh are almost guaranteed 2nd place in the group…
If they come 2nd they would get the runners up in Belgium’s group… likely the Russia/Denmark winner, in Amsterdam, in the round of 16 |

This about sums yesterday up.
I love the fact S4C ventured to the wilds of Pontrhydfendigaid to find a pub, rather than the centre of Cardiff:

"I'm looking forward to England v Scotland tonight
Me too, Nell!
Sorry to my Scottish chums, but it's England all the way!!!! X"
I think this is a must win for Scotland. They do have some players who can certainly damage us, John Mcginn and Mvtominay is a hardworking midfield who are more than capable of scoring and they won't stop running, so cannot be complacent for this one.
I would go with Grealish, Mount and Foden to try and pin Scotland back right from the start and make them defend their own box. At the very least we can win a lot of freekicks that way, especially if Grealish plays, and then score from those set pieces. I definitely dont think this is as easy a game as most england fans are thinking though.
Anything can happen when it comes to this rivalry, and Scotland will want to show their travelling fans they can give a good game. I know Steve Clarke likes to go 2 up top but i think for this one he should put an extra midfielder in |

After seeing them play the other day, no way should we be expecting an easy win. I'd just like us both to get through to the next round x |

Absolutely, I would like to see all of the home nations get through to the last 16, what a year that would be for the country after this covid year. Looks like Wales are basically through now. There are opportunities for 4 3rd place teams to make it through too, so it can definitely be a possibility |
