I tend to agree that he’s done well. He’s been open to multiple levels of input and looked at working dynamics for successful teams and businesses to see what he can use. In depth conversations with top managers, from Pep to Sir Alex…
He’s definitely been a breath of fresh air in England management and takes a creative perspective on teams and tactics.
I have more faith in him than I have in many before him but the proof is always in the pudding. He will be judged on how the team perform and results, so I’m waiting to see how far they get.
It’s a good start (better than any England team at any Euros before) but it’s just the start.
There have been plenty of false dawns before now and I’m tired of being the ‘plucky losers’ of international football |

"One swallow shag..
I get what you mean.
It was a good result but let’s not get carried away"
Correct. At the 2018 World Cup finals, over 90 minutes we won 3, drew 1, lost 3. BUT we finished 4th and were heroes! (For the record Big Sam has a 100% win percentage managing England ) |

Yup!
I find that quite funny.
Although two of those losses were to the same team… |

Early days..
If there’s one thing that we should be good at on here, it’s managing expectations "

I think genius is pushing it a bit far, and over praising would be an understatement. Compared to Gary Knuckle Scabs down the pub, yes he probably is a genius. But the bar is set a bit low there anyway.
Albert Einstein was a genius. Thomas Edison was a genius. Leonardo da Vinci was a Genius. |

He also guided us to the WC semi, the finals of the nations league and revitalised support and faith in the national team.
It’s still only the first match in the tournament, let’s not get carried away |

I’m supporting all of the home nations, principally England but I’m cheering for Wales and Scotland as well.
It’s going to be an interesting match tonight, Spain haven’t had the smoothest of warm ups and aren’t the force that they were, it might go well for you tonight |

I think he's a great manager and example to the game. He's calm, thoughtful, fiercely loyal to his players and stands up for his principles in the face of opposition. That's why he's respected by his players and why they perform. How far England gets in the Euros remains to be seen however! |

"It seems that he could do it, could he do it? He is just a touching distance away "
I've had my doubts about his style of football, but fair play to him. Many of the previous managers and players would've made hard work of yesterday and probably wouldn't have even got past Germany. Everyone seems to be playing for each other and I have to give Southgate credit for that |

As a Scotsman, I think on the whole England have a good team and a good manager. I think far too much pressure is put on them by the media, the media talk with the expectation of winning, not the hope or desire.
I just hope we don't see any more games go to penalties, it's not a great way to determine a winner. |

As an English lady living in Scotland it is good to hear a Scotsman praising the English football team. Wish they were all like you. |

He’s not just a great manager, he’s a brilliant role model for his team and the fans. He continually extols the virtue of ‘ you don’t have to win’ he’s teaching kids losing isnt failure …
Plus he’s very fuckable (oops! Did I say that out loud |
