There is some antihistamine that is sold as a sleep aid, I think it's diphenhydramine usually. Antihistamines don't usually leave drowsiness, and are not sleeping tablets.
Otherwise, grow Lavender, so you've got the foliage year round to use - rub it, smell it and you can make a tea from it. Valerian is also a good natural sleep aid - it can be grown, or bought in most health food shops, and taken as a bitter tasting tea - imo.
If you are in bed and can't sleep, get up and do chores that are tedious and unliked, such as cleaning the floor with a small cloth etc. Don't toss and turn, tho wanking is ok.
Practice relaxation, not just when you want to sleep. Entering a calmer state becomes easier and quicker, as it's a skill to learn, like any other. Progressive relaxation is one I teach, where you separately move up from your feet to your head - don't start at your head. You relax your body, and your mind follows.
Don't look at blue lights, incl emissions from electric screens, as these will wake you body clock up.
If you can get melatonin, then this is a natural chemical that our bodies produce before night, that gets us into sleep mode. Prescription only in the UK, I think, but friends may have brought it over from overseas, where it's sold over the counter.
Try only to use your bedroom for sleeping, if you have persistent sleep problems. This will ensure your mind associates it with sleep.
Develop a going to bed ritual too - if we follow a ritual, we're likely to reassociate into the same state of mind that we connect to the habit.
Have a warm drink, something like hot milk. Check you're not taking stimulating stuff like caffeine late in the day - I don't drink after 6pm.
Be wary of drinking alcohol regularly to get to sleep, as it is habit inducing, of course.
Other stuff, like smoking, can also cause poorer sleep patterns.
