You were so good you never knew what you had.
Your style, the way you fought.
I remember seeing you with that ragamuffin style, the punches you flicked out with such ease other fighter were caught cold by them.
How you shocked the world beating Roberto Duran in America in 82. I was a kid but my dad made me watch you because he said you were the British Muhammad Ali.
Duran recaptured the world title later on so you beat the best at there best.
Then you just stopped. It could have been you but I guess the pressure was too much. People use to say to me when I was walking across the park in South London heading to the gym 'see that guy, that's the natural, that's kirk'
Everyone loved you for the nice relaxed way you greeted anyone and talked about boxing.
I always looked at you and wondered what you could have been yet we all loved you.
Everyone did, those at the market, other fighters, even the police that checked in on you, to us you were special and even though drink and drugs took hold of your life we held you in our hearts.
I'm so upset you've gone.
You were from the streets, in the streets but our champion.
