Hi mate. I feel for you. I’ve just been diagnosed with prostate cancer. Just waiting for a date for the operation.

Speaking of which all you men need to get your pas blood checked. I had no symptoms at all.

My dad will be 3 years gone on 29th of this month because pancreatic cancer took him, mum had skin cancer in 2011 , my brother had it 6 years ago. The bloody thing runs on my mother’s side of the family as most of her siblings have succumbed to various forms of it.

Come what may , I don’t care.

Lost my dad to prostate cancer that metastasised to the bones 10 years ago. Would urge all you guys to get tested.

A young woman popped up on the news last week that has terminal cancer. I used to be a youth worker and had the pleasure of her company for years as a kid. Now is the time for her to be having kids of her own but she has a little time left to live but is using that time to encourage people to not ignore odd pains and aches and get to the doctors.

Our eldest had a child cancer at 2 1/2. 18 months of chemo, an 11hr (2team) operation in the middle, loss of an organ & a few bits chopped about internally. Now fourteen with a couple of scars & doesn’t remember much about the whole experience

Her Daughter texted me to tell me, apparently she had a fall in hospital. She was planning on coming up to see me again, then after the operation, I said I said that I would go down and see her, sadly it was too late....

Astonishingly one in two people will have cancer at some point. I was married for 25 years when my husband died of stomach cancer aged 50. I have hopefully been cured of cervical cancer. I will always have blood cancer but it is under control at present.

Cancer has unfortunately always been part of life. Living much longer lives is one reason for increases (yes, I'm aware many people mentioned here are younger, but most cancers increase in frequency as we age).

I just hope we can capitalise on some very promising treatments that are in the pipeline to provide more hope and options for people who are suffering.

I've lost both parents to lung cancer, ma Mam 2 days before ma 7th birthday in 1969, she was only 39 years old, then ma Dad when I was 21 in 1984, he was 70.

My mom beat cancer in 2014 & is the strongest woman I’ve ever known, sadly my Dad passed away with lung cancer in February but he said himself he lived a good life with no regrets, it was a very short illness he died less than 2 months of diagnosis, but I still say everyday he chose when to go, not the cancer!

Mr KC had a similar scare last year. Query lymphoma. He had quite a large lump removed from his neck and he now has a wonky scar right across the side of his neck. He got the all clear on Christmas Eve, for which we were very thankful. No real idea what it WAS, but good to know what it was not.

My dad had an acoustic neuroma removed about 25 years ago. He's deaf on one side due to removal of all inner and middle ear, but he's fine. Hopefully it's something that easy to remove and like neuromas, is not cancerous.

When I got my all clear after chemo and radio I sat back did a real evaluation of life.

Quit my main job in London and started getting more tradesmen in to deal with what is now my main job.

Spend more time relaxing, eating well and generally looking after myself and enjoying life.

Unfortunately I have a place in the Canaries which I miss desperately and hope to get out to soon.

Haven't seen it in over 3 years now.

Not had full blown cancer but had a scare. Had stage 3 pre cancerous cells on my cervix. One quick procedure later and gone for good thank god. A very worrying few months.

Ladies get your smears done! I put mine off and this happened.

I was the same. They found cin4 on my very first smear. Procedure to remove them and more regular smears for a good few years

Yes Chemo is a fucker but your wrong to say it fucks it all up. Without Chemo I would have been dead 24 years ago agree you never totally get over it because let’s face they are pumping horrendous poison through you body but I have been able to watch my kids grow up because of it.

Undoubtedly it is a personal choice as to whether to take it or not and I have seen the results of it not working and the pain the person and their family goes through but don’t just dismiss it.

My husband and had bowel cancer, NHL.

He had six months of chemo which put him in remission.

Then chemo maintenance to prolong the remission.

I agree in some ways that the chemo is a horrible treatment - as it kills the good as well as the bad.

Husband had lots of horrible side effects, and ultimately the chemo maintenance damaged his heart beyond repair.

I wish we knew more about cbd at the time as I would’ve poured it into him.

I was still all for the chemo as it did get rid of the cancer. It was the continuous maintenance that did the damage. They don’t normally offer maintenance until there’s a recurrence of cancer,but wanted to try it first with my husband to prolong the remission.

I had my ear canal surgically removed as it was infected with cancer. I am have an ear, and an ear drum, but no conduit between the two. Took 30 cycles of radiotherapy afterwards too. Just about two years since i was told, now.

NHS was amazing, can't say enough thanks to the Christie for all they do.

I agree too that chemo can be a difficult thing to go through. Can have dreadful side effects, but it does work for some.

My husband had prostrate cancer. Nothing worked, it was just too aggressive.

Husbands was one that was probable to return, hence the maintenance. They told us he could have 15 years if he was lucky. My heart dropped when I heard that. In the end he got 2 and a half x

I don't even know where to start with the scientific inaccuracies, fallacies and downright nonsense in this post.

1) Cancers are started by cells that go "rogue". They stop responding to the normal cell cycle controls and evade the inbuilt mechanisms for removing damaged or old cells (apoptosis). By definition, the body cannot heal itself from cancer because cancer is what happens when the body's normal "healing" processes go awry.

2) Cells of your own body cannot be poisonous. The definition of a poison is a substance which is introduced into the body (ingestion, inhalation, absorption etc) and that causes illness or death. By definition, your own cells cannot be a poison.

3) I'm completely at sea re: your bubble comment. Do you mean the intracellular degradation pathways, such as via lysosomes etc, where intracellular debris etc can be broken down and recycled?! Are you referring to the cells of the innate immune system, such as macrophages, which remove dead and damaged cellular material?

Bottom line - we can't cure cancers with prayers, crystals, visits to Lourdes, eating "clean", fasting, singing, thinking or anything else. It's difficult to cure any condition that is caused by your own cells misbehaving. This is because we have few ways to target only the cancerous cells. Your healthy cells are, at the end of the day, genetically identical to any cancer cells. So any substance that kills/damages cancerous cells is also going to kill/damage healthy cells. Hence the shitty side effects of chemo. We have less extreme, but related issues dealing with autoimmunity (where the immune system "goes rogue"), with fungal infections (because fungal cells are basically the same as animal cells) etc.

Please stop spreading bullshit.

Fasting is not zero carb though. Fasting means eating nothing. Nada. Unless a person is already emaciated, the body has a multitude of ways to derive energy apart from carbs, hence why people on keto diets don't keel over and die.

I've had recurring bladder cancer for about 25 years im lucky i have regular cystoscopies and they burn off any worrying areas there and then or if more serious day surgery. Cancer is not a joke neither is it something to hide and be embarrassed about any treatment for any cancer should be taken up with open arms and please don't listen to this bubble and the body healing itself crap. If you have cancer and don't treat it, it will kill you . On of life's simple facts

Yes. Which by definition is zero carb. The body uses ketone bodies as fuel in both cases. On zero carb diets there is nutrition for the rest of the body, but the cancer cells start to fast. They can use ketone but are more efficient with sugar.

Its a way of weakening the cancer cells resistance whilst feeding the body.

The previous poster who claimed you could fast away cancer blah blah was not referring to low or zero carbs though. That's the point. Reducing available sugars may, in theory, slow down replication of some cancers but it won't get rid of them. That would require some kind of cytotoxic drugs. The majority on this thread objected to the earlier comment re: fasting (as in, absence of food) and other pseudoscience because it's completely false, dangerous and not to mention offensive to those who are dealing with cancer.

I think your definitions of fasting differ.

You have to be careful with words as someone might take these comments seriously.

So you have to be very precise, fasting is too general a term as to some it could mean eat nothing but water.

This would severely weaken the body in general.

Whereas reducing sugars is much more precise.

I'm yet to read up on this but I know that there is some talk from people who I know who have had cancer that it could have an impact.

But they were really clear on cutting sugar. Not cutting all food.
