Depends which filter.
Technically black and white is a filter.
Make up can be viewed as a filter in a way. I do think some filters certainly push it too far in to the catfish zone, but filters as a whole are fine. They enhance photos.
99% of the photos you see will be taken from flattering angles. Often on altering levels equal to that of some filters. But no filter is involved! |

I don't mind seeing some filtered photos, as long as they're obvious. I'd be put off if there were no unfiltered photos though. I tend not to use filters, but do pay attention to angles to get my best side |

Don't mind some artistic color filters eg, black and white. The filters that can transform a person's attributes so they're unrecognisable. No
What's the point, if and when you meet them, you'll feel lied to and deceived. |

Aren’t black and white photos filtered OP ? |
Reply privately (closed, thread got too big)
I've never filtered mine I am what I am take it or leave it ..
I have no issue with a minor brush up and good angles, but when the reality is completely different to the pics I think its a tad deceiving imo |
Reply privately (closed, thread got too big)
Some are filtered to the point of probably bearing no resemblance to the person who picture it is.
Unfortunately there's no filter good enough to make me look any better.

I use some filters on my photos as I enjoy trying to make them look as good as possible. However non of my videos have had any filtering done at all. So you will get to see what I actually look like prior to a meet. |

No filters here and never used Snapchat. I don’t wear make up either. So what you see is what you get and if people don’t like that it’s fine by me. |

I don’t mind the odd one here and there, they can be a bit of fun and show something about the persons personality but I think they should be in moderation combined with unfiltered ones too. The worst ones for me are profiles who have 100% of their photos run through this Faceapp thing that totally alters your facial characteristics |

Me. I hate them. I don’t mind b&w and different colours but some of the face filters used on here are quite ridiculous and laughable, mostly women, can’t recall see any male ones. They’re so obvious too. I personally find it deceitful if you’re meeting people. |

A monochrome lense is fine in my book but filters that make muscles look more defined, smooth skin or have anti-aging properties, are in my view, a little deceptive.
Don't even get me started on bunny ears, butterfly crowns or fairy dust everywhere. |

Perhaps most "younger" women. Friends my age don't really use them, younger women I know do - some to the extent of not posting a selfie unless it has a Snapchat filter on it. |

I’ll filter some of mine in terms of lighting or to black and white, I’m by no means adding huge eyeballs or bunny ears or what not!
A subtle light change can make a photo look better but if your cropping off bits of yourself and making muscles/curves more defined that’s a bit misleading xx |

Is the intent to deceive or to enhance? We all want to look our best but when the intention is to deceive - no! Not a fan of the gimmicky ones either... but that's a filter in itself! |

I use black and white, colour splash and that one that darkens the edges if there's something in the periphery I'd rather not draw attention to.
I don't use the ones that give you massive alien eyes or take out all texture from the skin, and I wouldn't know where to start with Photoshop, so I'm afraid my photos are all me. If I ever do learn how to use Photoshop my photos are going to look bloody amazing though |

I think that colour filters, and blur etc to disguise backgrounds, tattoos or other distinguishable features are fine. But anything that alters your appearance, especially the facial "beauty" filters is deceptive. |

I don't mind filters, but using filters to change your features is messed up and can't be healthy for anyone involved. I've seen people photoshop big tits and small waists and Facetune the hell out of their photos and I do think it's wrong to deceive someone like that. I'd just like to point out I am talking about extreme changes here, not just a little airbrush etc.
I don't have an issue with people using their best photos, and I do think you have to expect a slight change once movement etc is involved. But some people are unbelievable. I know people say they are doing no harm but I do believe they are, especially if planning to meet. |

I think artistic / saturation filters like black and white, I’m fine with that.
I do wonder why adults use child themed filters like Snapchat, that definitely does nothing for me. And if people change their colour, weight, skin complexion etc with filters I feel like it’s a shame people feel the need to do that.
Picking best angles of assets is one thing, but I feel for me people should not be striving to represent something they’re not, I was chatting to someone many years ago at a group social and she openly admitted her online pictures were extremely manipulated, it made me sad as she openly said it made her feel better temporarily and got her more attention, but in reality, it just fed her insecurities. |

"I use real life filters. Botox, Invisalign, micro blading, lip fillers.
I do try not to show the left side my face by my eye as I have a scar there from when some stupid bitch smashed a bottle and put it in my face. I could filter it out in my pics but I don’t. I know my newest pic I’ve noticed you can see it but that’s cos I know it’s there. Dunno if other people notice it?"
You pointed out so now I do. That usually how it works I've noticed.

It’s actually worse in real life. Pictures don’t pick it up that well and make up can’t really hide it plus there’s loads of little ones underneath it going into my hairline and under my ear cos part of my ear was sliced underneath, they had to stitch it back together But my hair usually covers it. |

Cameras don't always take a realistic photo because of lighting etc. Filters can help correct this so actually help.
Manipulating photos to change your look is another matter. |

Depends how it's done, if it's in a way to add mystery and seduction to a pic that's nice to see but if its to fool others of how you look I can't stand to see it.
From experience I see women do it more than I seen a man do it don't get why surely over time it would be unhealthy for someone's mental state of mind to feel they can't take more natural than face filter pics.
What happened to there being someone for everyone cos I belive so but guess it's just another thing that keeps the world spinning round xx |

Personally I have no problem with it. (I’d probably see it a mile off anyways). There is the distinction of making a photo artistic/seductive/fun vs manipulating to deceive. Clearly the latter is pants.
Oh and screw the cat ears and fake specs. Real turn off for me. Having said that I’ve used them a couple of times but only for jokey forum challenges. |

I try not to use them, I barely use SC. I have a few, but only very minor filters, nothing like bloody dog ears or a scary smoothed out face. It's why I have so many pics, I try to show me and everything someone would get, and I've never had someone say in meeting that I don't look like them. I've actually had two guys say I'm prettier in person but I think that's true of everyone as we're all gawjus! |

In my newest pic (my profile pic) I took that on Tuesday, after being in the sun a few hours. I have a scar above my lip, and it's quite noticeable in the new pic, especially as I'm makeup free and the sun has given my usually pale face some colour (hence my name! I'm all for standard filters obviously that's clear to see but not ones that change your appearance like smoothing skin or adding ears etc.
Going to be a bit awkward meeting someone and then looking completely different to your photos, I don't think people are expecting me to show up and be in b&w
Although I have standard photos with no filter also |

Ah, I don't agree with you on this one! Smoothed out skin, dog ears and tongue, hearts and all that are way worse and loads of guys are doing it now too! Angles however are just about showing your best side, and we ALL feel like we have a good side! I'm not saying angled a million miles above you with a scary pout or something, but a head tilt, or something similar, nothing wrong with that! |

It's easy to tell who uses these filters as their eyes all look big and glassy.

We alter lighting and background blur to draw attention to ourselves more in photos. We really like the results and there are enough pics and videos for someone to make their own minds up about our authenticity.
SC filters that change physical features are fun for kids and completely off-putting here. If we've no idea what you look like because you've sent us a cartoon animation of yourself, then we may as well send you a pic of what we're having for dinner!

There’s a level where it’s acceptable.
But if all your pictures are of you with dog ears or butterflies around your head. I’m out |

Yeah that is off-putting. I hate the weird eye ones, I like to see people's eyes and if they are hidden by a filter or photoshop then it's a hell no |

If it's making them feel more confident in posting a picture then im all for it for example editing out a blemish or what ever!
Changing things drastically like hair/eye colour/body size is going a bit far. |
