"When we went to York the fish and chips where £12 a portion and thats a few years ago now
York expensive" York is expensive inside the walls. We didnt get the fish and chips but ate at a lovely pub outside the walls |

"For London. Probably not. £13.50 each. Costs me about £40 ish for 4 of us. "
We can have a portion of fish and chips (way too many chips for one person) for £5.30. Fish is £3.50 and small chips (actually enough for two) is £1.80....
*Reminds self to remind north of Watford Gap* |

"It was delivered to be fair"
Getting stuff thru Uber Eats etc is always more expensive.
I'm not shocked by the price if he's ordered from a top end restaurant rather than a local chippy, although it is more than I'd expect to pay myself.

Rip off or not.. ?"
Have a quick squint at just eat... If you want it cheaper you can find it a lot cheaper. But then that wouldn't be click bait (see what I did there?) |

Local chippie it’s £10.50 for a regular cod & chips. My favourite delivered from Poppies it’s £25.00 for two haddock & one large chips.
North Norfolk coast it’s £42.00 for four cod & chips, so in comparison it’s much the muchness |

"A northerner visited London and had 4 portions of fish and chips delivered for 54 pounds..
Rip off or not.. ?" . I live in North London and I walk to my local chippy.Large cod and chips is £9.00 small £7.50.The Northerner who visited London paid £13.50 per person and had it delivered so I would say that is about right for London. |

When me moved up north from London my parents went to the chippy on our first night in the new place and got 4 portions of fish and chips not realising that up north a portion can feed a whole family . Someone asked how they didn't notice by the price but they were used to London price! |

In weight?
I’m not sure about this delivery malarkey but that would be about £25 here. Which still feels like a lot? |

The Magpie cafe in Whitby is pricey but very nice, anywhere else in Yorkshire more than £6 for fish and chips they are lifting your leg.
My friend from London couldn’t believe how cheap fish and chips were in Leeds, then asked for a Savaloy and chips the heathen ! |

I’m guessing he could see the price before he ordered so if he didn’t want to pay £54 then he didn’t have to.
Seems a bit over priced but not sure what he was expecting when it was delivered to, large portions I guess as well. |

We paid £8:50 each locally for fish and chips about four years ago, I don't think £12:50 delivered is too bad. It depends also on what fish they had and where they get it from too. Why is it relevant that he was a northener? |

I think the availability of cheap food delivered to your door has given people unrealistic expectations. £12:50 a head for freshly cooked food that you haven't even had to leave your house for isn't a rip off in my opinion |

If we have chippy, we nip over the border into Yorkshire
It's about £15-£16 for two lots of f&c with a drink each
If we both had mushy peas you could add another £2.50
Chippy teas aren't cheap any more
They're a once in a while treat as opposed to a weekly event |

For us and the two kids, we usually get 2 fish, two sausages, two large portions of chips, a tub of gravy and 4 cans of D&B. Comes to about £24. Maybe a bit more if the eldest has a fish and not sausage. |

I work occasionally for a fishmonger. Shetland cod. We have to pick worms out of it as it’s a bottom feeder. So if you wonder what those brownish streaks are in your battered fish - it’s worms.
Now pay £54 ! |

You get to see the prices on Deliveroo, Just Eat etc before you buy. It's not a surprise price that is charged and you can cancel the order within a period of time. |

They were examples, hence the etc bit. Any online ordering must include the price and the option to cancel. My local chip shop, operated by a small family group, gives 10 mins to cancel the order or amend. You cannot sell anything online without showing the cost before purchase. |

The last time I walked into my local chippy and saw that just chips were 2.60 I walked straight back out again! I'm not paying that for pale chips with a quantity of probably only 2 potatoes!! He's a fool for paying that there's no way you order things without knowing the price first. |

Did the person know how much it would cost when he ordered?
Why do people complain about paying for food that someone else has sourced, cooked and delivered to them?"
Online news suggests that Yorkshire Dad gave his card to London based adult offspring, who did the ordering.... Silly billy |

. Rookie error.
I think that people are just used to take away food being really cheap , don't KFC sell a "bargain bucket"? What quality can we expect if we want a meal for four, sourced, prepared, cooked and delivered for £20? |

Costs me £32 for 4. Everything is more expensive in London, besides, hospitality has taken such a battering () over the last year, we should do what we can to support the industry. |

Depending on London area...including chips it varies from £7 to £13..so..it was the extra on the delivery charges. But in London there’s more fish n chips shop than churches in Rome...why pay for deliver when is just up the road |
