I have a seemingly healthy,no sign of injury, can spread wings Gull taken up residence in the rear courtyard at work. Its quick on its feet, already popped inside for a look about. For some reason it can't manage or want to fly. I've left some water out for it. No idea if boy or girl. Maybe a female looking to find a place to lay her eggs?

I'd phone the RSPCA for advice...it may have injuries that you can't see that are preventing it from flying, or it may just not have the room it needs to take off and get over the courtyard walls, they're pretty big birds |

This particular Gull is large. I tried chasing it and clapping to shock it, and take flight but it would only run.
I'll give it an hour or so and if it is still there, I'll contact RSPCA

I checked this thread expecting to read about wide-eyed men who, reacting to the flashing of a car's headlights, emerge from woodland to ejaculate over the side of a dogger's car only to find out its actually a mundane chat about "Larus argentatus". Gutted. |

Don't think it is. Its adult white feathers are full grown and the bird is almost a foot tall. |

They are the rats of they sky. Can't eat down the beach now ad they will just take out your hands.. the mess they make ripping open rubbish, when chick's hatch if your unlucky enough to have best on your roof you sice with death every time you go In or out. Ny neighbour has out a massive net across their garden as they were swoopjng down attacking his dogs.. they really are a problem here amd don't help people feed the buggers. |

If it a baby seagull you can tell by the mottled brown with black spots. They are fed to well in the nest. To heavy to fly. They lose weight whilst on ground till they can fly. It will fly away.
It is illegal to kill a sea gull in Wales and certain species in England |

Yes phone the RSPCA...don't let it nest as you will not be allowed to move it legally as they are protected, you could try throwing a large towel over it and moving it out away from your garden/home then see what happens with it...  |

They do. I don't understand why they don't do more about the numbers. Every be all like " ah they're a bird and balh blah." No they are a problem now. The same with foxes coming further in the towns..its the people who feed them making it more a problem. |

One time I found a seagull on my balcony. It seemed in some distress and exhausted. I left it some water and in a few hours it disappeared. I realised it had probably flown across the channel and just needed a place to rest for a bit. The smarter seagulls sit on the back of the ferry. |

Reminds me of a nightmare scenario I had a few years back while working in a small shop in Galway.
Heard something Hitchcockesque, went out back to find tow seagulls having either a shag or fight had fallen into a small courtyard space about 25 foot square which had recently lost its cover. They were probably doing whatever on the roof next door and fell in.
One managed to levitate and escape. The other I eventually had to coax out through the shop courtesy of a bun donated by restaurant next door.
I can still see the look on the face of the woman who tuned around to see me tempting it there shop....
Fecker then proceeded to attack people on the street. Local animal protection didn't want to know and kept saying it would find its wings eventually.
Last I saw it was chasing some skinny lad's ankles who should have been wearing socks anyway |

Gulls are protected by law. There is no such thing as a “seagull” (as pointed out by a person above”
It is fledging season, the bird the OP has encountered is probably lacking in confidence and a little confused. If you are able make a step construction out of boxes to encourage the bird to “hop” up and down them that would probably help. Do not feed it, necessity in the mother of all invention..... including flight. |
