Important.
It has come to my attention that one of our southern members of the community (I shall withhold names to save them the shame) has never heard of "Chippy tits".
I was under the impression that it was a UK thing. Now I'm questioning if it is just a northern or even just a North West thing.
This needs to be confirmed before the world can return to normal. |

"Born and bred in the same city the OP is in and only heard of this recently, in relation to one ex mayor I think..
It's a newish phrase methinks ."
Nah its definitely been going on for at least 20 years. I heard it all the time back as a teenager. I guess that must by why I thought it more common. |

I've heard Joe Anderson referred to as chippy tits and never got why (I'm dim enough to think it was related to having a chip on one's shoulder!).
Now I get why but as a fat bird myself I don't really like it and it's not an insult I'd use. Glass houses and all that. ![](/icons/s/redface.gif) |

"I'm assuming it's another insult towards fat people.
If it is try and take little notice
Small minds and all that
Fat insults go right over my head.
Calling me stupid however "
Skinny insults have always went over mine also, small minds
Small dicks and all that ![](/icons/s/biggrin.gif) |

I've only ever known it as a friendly banter "insult", again as I said further up more to do with the love one has for take away food - but yes the fat insult is also in there too I guess. |

Pardon the pun, but I think Joe Anderson has bigger fish to fry now, with all that's going on ![](/icons/s/eek.gif) |

I am 71 years young, born in NW near Bolton, moved to London in 1970, never heard the term. Must be a new term, I know the term Chippy relates to the Chip Shop though, oh to be young again ![](/icons/s/2/halo.gif) |

"Never heard of it and born n bread in North West, just had to urban dictionary it to know what it means "
Urban dictionary takes it to the extreme unfortunately.
It was never used to that extent around here at least. Was always referring to the love of takeaways |

"Had to look it up on Urban Dictionary. Suspect it is more ‘working class’ than a regional thing. "
I'm a working class southerner and never heard that one, I was thinking chippy as in carpenter and it meaning flat as a board lol |

"Had to look it up on Urban Dictionary. Suspect it is more ‘working class’ than a regional thing.
What has class got to do with it? "
No idea. Other than it might be linked to dietary habits? “Evidence” in the forum thread so far was that it was not a regional thing. So suggested another possibility?
It was not intended to be serious. Apologies if it offended, triggered or otherwise upset anyone “with a chip on their shoulder” ![](/icons/s/mrgreen.gif) |
