Panini sticker books .. got, got, got, need, got ...

Who used to collect these as a kiddie?

It’s a great business model from Panini isn’t it?

The first few packets of stickers you bought were brilliant as they were all new stickers you didn’t have. But then you’d start to get a mix of new ones and duplicates. And later pretty much whole packets of the things would be duplicates so you’re literally throwing your money away...

Unless .. you trade, which is of course most of the fun! Handing over huge piles of the things to your mates who hand you their huge pile of duplicates ... got, got, got, then that brilliant moment when they actually have one you need ... then got, got, got again ...

Rumour has it that some stickers were produced in lower quantities to encourage people to keep on buying more and more packets or that they were sent to different geographical locations ... who knows if this was ever the case!?

On my Twitter there are fully grown adults with their own albums collecting for Euro 2020, good luck to them and to you if you’re one of them!

Are you or your kids collecting this year?

Do you remember collecting as a kiddie?

Still do it and I’m 37 lol.

Costs a fortune now, works out nearly 10p per sticker. But love collecting and completing a book. I still have fond memories of my auntie taking me to G-Mex centre on swap days and swapping all my stickers to complete the book. Plus you met some random footballer, I met Dominic Matteo at one and he signed my sticker in my book, prob devalued it but loved it.

The magic is gone now though, I only do it for nostalgia reasons

Yes! My first was a Beano one. Then I got into football and had one every year. They actually got banned from my school as kids were fighting over the shiny club badges!

Remember I needed Peter Crouch for ages (Liverpool) era to complete my collection. Finally got him months and £££££££'s down the line, only to find he was just a torso (too tall for the photo) should of just cut the head off one of my 84 Jamie Carragher duplicates and used that

That’s the one, was playing for Liverpool at the time though it was that long ago.

That’s crazy money, I blame the rich parents giving more pocket money than I earn lol. I use to get 50p and that got me two packs of the merlin one, and some years they did a feee McDonald’s on some of the stickers so was always up.

Everyone I’ve done, it’s been emotional, but worth it. However they are currently stored in my parents loft. Kinda defeats the purpose but only place to keep them at the moment

They do still do that, just in case people don’t have lots of friends to swap with

I got my kids the 2018 World Cup album just for nostalgia purposes.

They enjoyed it but I’d forgotten how long it took to actually complete one!

After a while they lost interest in getting lots of duplicates, even though they collect pokemon cards

Back in the day they use to do a swap tour, they went round the country so you could go and swap all your stickers for the ones you wanted. You was only suppose to do 50 but you could do as many as you wanted in reality.

Was a good day they would have a footballer to take a photo with, and games to play with prizes, I won a kit of my own choice in the penalty shootout, they said own choice but all that was left was Nottingham forest, was shit, still wore it though. Fond memories of my childhood that. 96 was the best year as they did McDonald’s vouchers for free food, on some of the stickers and managed to swap loads for them, lived like a king for a week after that.

There and to the left a bit

Those were the days - early to mid 1970s - I used to get the yearly Figurine Panini album along with my copy of Shoot League Ladders

Great wads of swaps taken into school - I seem to remember there was a Partick Thistle player that seemed to be in every other packet.

This was in the days before "shineys" too - the only "different" ones were the club crest and a team picture.

I also did a Disney one and a cars one that came out to fill the gap between seasons.

And then of course there were the petrol station coins that covered World Cups, space travel etc - not to mention collector cards in my Grandad's fag packets covering all manner of topics.
