It's like cold calling PPI claims when you see some of the first messages. In all honesty your suitability is assessed in a nano second... and that's not always right but I hold my hand up to it.
I rarely find messages send cold get any kind of positive response. I much rather interact with people from the forums because I have people watched them, I have noticed their humour, flirtation, and it's so much easier to click even with platonic friendships.
There are threads which I use to let guys know that I am interested in them.

Not really much you can say that’s guaranteed to generate a response. All you can do is attach face pictures and hope the person you’re messaging finds you attractive. That’s all there is to it. Obviously be polite when you message but the text doesn’t really matter. It’s the pictures that determine a response.
If I was a guy I’d send one of the following messages.
If the profile didn’t show a face only a body picture I’d say body looks immense do you have a pretty face to match? This is me (attach face pics)
If they have face pics I’d say you look amazing this is me (attach face pics). |

Personally I’d like a response which reflected our profile or status without jumping straight to the point or even better something totally random and wacky to catch us off guard.
Like are you a dog or cat person? Which also links me back to your profile coz then it brings the focus back to you while still engaging with us
The best thing is to be you that way you find the connections
