Plus it's scored too. Think ballroom dancing. In that sense it could be described as a sport. |

I’ve been dancing for 30 plus years both at a professional and non professional level and I assure you that the stamina, speed, flexibility, muscle and down right endurance needed to be a dancer should make dancing classified as a sport.
Many athletes argue that dance isn't a sport because dancers don't follow an objective scoring system.

Oxford Dictionary defines sport as "an activity involving physical exertion and skill in which an individual or a team competes against another or others for entertainment"
So basically it's a yes |

Dancing isn’t competitive, it’s expressive, so it’s art.
Art that requires strength, stamina, dedication and lots more besides.
Dancers are athletes, just not competitive ones, save for breakdancing |

I'd also add disco dancing. Big competitions in the 1970s |

Is ice skating dancing?
I’ll accept that I was hasty in my comment but the vast majority of dancing is non competitive |

Not the ice-skating where you go round and round. Figure skating that is scored based on performance |

But is that just not different levels of participation? My kids rugby club does walking rugby non competitively just for social reasons. Doesn't make rugby as a whole less of a sport even if it became more popular than the contact version. |

Ballet, jazz, modern, contemporary, backing dancers... non competitive.
There may well be aspects that are competitive but dancing is an art form at its core |

Yes and no for me, when I did dance I'd spend hours at the barre before doing anything remotely creative. Then I'd have my exams to pass my grades. And those grades were marked from a pass all the way to distinction. And I flaming well did compete with my peers for the highest percentage. But I get where you are coming from dance does have artistic merit over the majority of sports. |

I do but as a hobby and for laughs with my mates. I had a knee op in my early twenties which put an end to intensive dancing. |

Yes, I can see how that works but in that aspect, acting can be seen as a sport.
Lots of things are competitive in terms of interpersonal relationships but aren’t competitive directly. |
