Hi, big four, dead lifts, squats, inclined chest press, and lat pull downs. General stuff start low weight to get good form and then increase. Use machines to start with and go with free weights later. xxx Jon

Yeah the dried sweat splashes on the treadmill screen are always a treat, aren’t they?

Even before the ‘rona a thorough disinfecting of any equipment I was about to use was always given!

Do you have to wear mask in the gym?

Oh wow good on you for joining!

I would recommend having a introduction session if that’s not already something that’s happening. It might be beneficial to get a personal trainer even just for a few sessions to show you the basics and write a plan for you.

If you don’t want the personal trainer or it’s not an option have a look on YouTube at some basic beginner exercises and look for some plans there are so many different things you can do

Good luck with it and all the best!

I’m sure there will be some great advice in thread for you too

If you do get asked, don't feel the need to rush. Take your time as it's more important you do it properly than to potentially injure yourself

Don't go in wearing make up. Gym bunnies just attract the wrong type.

Sweat IS a badge of honour.

Learn to stretch, before you go in, or even make your first session stretch only; as tears will send you packing for 3 months.

Find out what you want and don't want. Size, tone, stamina or all round fitness.

and enjoy it.

All depends on what your goals are, 1st session take it slow and easy don't want to over do it on either the weights or any of the cardio machines, just see what you're comfortable with and go from there it will take a few sessions to get into the groove, good luck and enjoy it

Ask for a trainer to show you how everything works, and give advice on your goals

I enquired at a gym, the one I chose includes a PT in the membership

Definitely... it depends on your goals but you see the same people going in and using the same machines, doing the same weights and 2 years later look no different, you see a newbie come in hitting free weights 6 month later look incredible.

Well done OP...a mixture of High Intensity Interval Training...and free weights is good all over toning and fat burning...remember to start at a level that suits you and build it up gradually..results don't show over night but damage to muscles will...feel the slight burn when working out but not real pain...always stretch and warm up before and always stretch and cool down after and plenty of water to keep hydrated...target the area's you want to work...once those feel good morphine's kick in you'll feel great and proud of the work out you have done..Enjoy and good luck OP

Usually gyms will write up exercise programs for you according to your objectives. Ask them what you should do.

Hi Op

hope you enjoy your new gym.

not sure if it's been mentioned yet but I would recommend taking any classes if they are held at the gym.

For me this is the best way to get the most value from a gym. You can have regular workouts in a structured session with a qualified trainer. Most gym classes are for all levels so there is no negative pressure. You can also get an idea of what kind of fitness activities you like doing.

Best of luck

Laux
