Lightweight luggage!

Jump to: Newest in thread

A world of my own

I am holidaying soon and yes, as a woman I tend to take lots of change of clothes and toiletries and accessories etc.

So I need extra lightweight luggage as my allowence is only 20kgs. My suitcase weighs 4kg before Ive even started to pack it!!!

Can anyone recommend any? where from? How much? what weight?

I am amused by the term ONLY 20kg

There is lots of lightweight stuff about across the budget range.

Take a look at some of the department store websites. They can do some decent reductions on luggage at different times.

Also several manufacturers have outlet stores at various out of town centres.

I would say to avoid specialist luggage shops as they tend to be pricier for equivalent products.

Have a great holiday

Lol, why amused? Like I said im a woman, I need to take lots of things just in case I need it lol.

Believe me I take a lot less now than I used to, but as I said my suitcase weights 4kg before I start to pack so really that means I only get to take 16kg!!! My toiletries and make up weigh that much lol

Think the lightest luggage ways about 2kg's ish....think its by Antler...

to my mind its not the prettiest looking of luggage and not cheap either...

but it'll be surprising what the extra 2kg of clothing you'll be able to carry

Lots of places (Primark included) have luggage they mark up as the lightest weight that still fits into budget airlines restrictions.

But just double check the measurements for the airline you are flying with - Ryanair in particular can be a*seholes

Check out travel vests like Rufus Roo as well - they're not glam, but anything in your pockets is not classed as luggage so you can carry whatever weight you like!

And after Ryanair threatened to charge me 50 Euro for being less than a kilo overweight I'm seriously considering one..

.

My best tip, take out the outfits you are going to take, DO NOT put them in the suitcase.

Then look at them, do you really need everything?

Shoes weigh the most, try to restrict them, take a neutral colour that will go with many outfits or even silver and gold for evening. Even pack some in your hand luggage

Toiletries, buy when you arrive if needed. The hotel may supply.

Have a great time hun

And don't forget that liquids and gels must be in 100ml bottles and fit into a bag the size of a standard sandwich bag - one per person! You can put stuff into any of your travel companions placcy bags, but they must close.

Primark sell 100ml travel kits to decant stuff into and they're only a squid.

Why not pack shoes and some clothes into a small hand luggage case that you can take on yourself. You can get a fair few pairs of shoes in one of those bags and then that will save you some weight in the big bag

I'm just picturing me with a hairdryer and crimper or a couple of pair of shoes in my pockets lol.

Think she doesn't want to check a bag honey. And most (though not flybe) budget airlines insist your handbag has to be able to fit into your carry on.

Seriously, take a look. You can get a laptop in one pocket and have lots left for other things! If you pack clothes into it you have your case for bulky stuff like shoes and dryer.

of course you take it off and put in the overhead locker as soon as you board - you only have to wear (or carry) it when you go through the gate.

We have the SubZero-G range in large. Excellent they are as well although they can be pricey. Shop around as we got ours from Matalan online plus cashback.

I usually pack hairdryers etc and costume jewellery and coffee and camera and phone and charger etc in hand luggage so it always weights the 5kg limit.

I'm flying Thomas Cook with a 20kg hold luggage allowance and a 5kg hand luggage. I'm going for 2 weeks and I need to take a lot of products as I cant get them where Im going. I have decanted loads into small bottles etc but I still never have enough allowance.

As said, the suitcase I have weighs 4kg before I start.

I'm looking at Matalan, 2.6 kg suitcase is good!

Try Tripp in Debenhams. Affordable luxury. Very well priced. I have just bought one for when I go to New York.

Ahhhhhh!

Then the travel vests could be the way to go! Carry your clothes on you and have your case free for the rest of it.

Have you paid extra already to get the 20kilo limit ?

I thought Thomas Cooks allowance was 15kg ?

Central

Definitely check your exact airline's restrictions, as they're all so different.

BA, for economy flights, for example, allows hand baggage 23kg plus a handbag or laptop: your limit, was 20kg, so assume it's not BA.

Definitely make use of as many pockets as possible, as you could carry - strength permitting, 100 tons of stuff around it. Someone above mentioned a special jacket with lots of pockets, but tradie tool jackets may be cheaper, and have enough pockets. Not so elegant, so instead any coat/jacket may do. Once on board, you can remove the jacket and pack it in the overhead locker: remember, it will need transit at the other end, where it may be hot etc: you'll be able to add it to a bag, if there's space in it, as you won't be weighed there, until you fly home.

I hardly ever check in luggage, preferring to take on board, and I take a lot. I usually use a rucksack, as these are flexible material, so expand to fit in what can be crammed in, and don't fall foul of dimensions, unless over-stuffed etc. They're also lightweight, so there's lots of weight left for clothes etc.

I'd aim to carry liquid stuff in pockets, as once thru security, a bag could be separated. Don't necessarily take the full allowance, as you may not need as much of each item: and lower weight = more clothes. Some liquids are so cheap abroad, it's better to buy there: check if possible.

I occasionally post stuff home, if it's not really valuable, and post is cheap enough, and you won't probably need express delivery for mundane stuff.

Have a great holiday!!!

Try ASDA. I saw them selling a 2.6kg lightweight large suitcase last week. It has a fibreglass frame, which is strong but keeps the weight down.
