I don't smile in photos generally, it looks fake and awful. I have natural resting bitch face which means I always look like I'm about to lynch someone. |

You are not alone!
I smile and laugh a lot in everyday life but I hate smiling for pics, just looks fake as hell when I try. Looks like I have something wrong with my face.
It looks okay if it’s genuine though ie someone took the pic when I didn’t notice.

I do a subtle smile. I can't do a full on smile with my teeth showing. It probably does look fake because it isn't really natural. I've always been the same, I used to hate having the school photos done as a kid.

Posed photos are fake, which is why photos taken of you behaving naturally have very different qualities. It's easy to tell the difference between fake and genuine smiles - the latter are alluring whilst fakes may be off-putting.
Ultimately you can use what's right for you. Non-smiling pics may still have the posed, fake essence and sometimes seem to show scowls etc. People naturally are drawn to others who are non-threatening and inviting, which natural smiles will frequently give off, ss they can be so disarming. Who doesn't get bowled over by babies' smiles, who have no concept of cameras, posing etc
I think if we are uncomfortable being photographed, it's largely a case of insufficient experience of being that side of the lens. Selfies are often poor, because they are 100% posed. |

"All these people saying Smiling is unnatural... are you all naturally not happy?
I smile a lot but I guess my circle of friends keep me happy "
Nobody said smiling is unnatural. Nor is the lack of smiling an indication of unhappiness.
What we have said it we are not natural smilers. Smiling is not our default facial expression.
I am perfectly happy with the majority of things in my life, a lack of a smile does not change this.
What is unnatural is the feeling and appearance of having to force a smile. Or give a type of smile that is not natural to you - I'm not much of a big smile with teeth on show, mine is more of a one sided smirk, or at most a little bit of teeth showing. My body just does not naturally do anything but those smiles, and if I force my body to attempt them it looks as unnatural as it feels. Forced. |

"I would rather see a non smiler, smiling, than looking like a misery arse
I often look like a misery arse in my photos "
But I bet you have a great smile! Faces change massively with a smile... Rarely not for the better |

The problem is pictures themselves. Some people (I am most certainly one of them) that looks far better in person than any single photo I have taken. Now I'm not saying that I think I'm attractive, just that I'm better looking than on pics and on vids.
Smiles in pics I don't think enhance much on me, but a smile in person does. It's a strange concept but it holds true. |

I like to go with the Mona Lisa approach in pictures, keep them guessing if I’m smiling or not.
I have heard though that it’s not cheese that should be said but prune when a picture is taken. |

Lots of posts have stated smiling looks forced therefore unnatural, mines a one sided smile to, nit sure if yours! but it’s how I smile, and thanks for the feedback. I hadn’t asked you to smile or even fake one.
And you’re right it’s upto the individual wether they want to or not, I smile.. I like smiling I smiled all this weekend.

Same. If I try and smile, I look like even more of a bell-end than usual. Sigh. |
