You hit reception as soon as you walk in.
What you need to do is both go in check in, only one to the desk and then both go upstairs then when the third person arrives, one leave and meet them outside and then walk in together, be certain of where you are heading - lifts, stairs.
Reception staff have a lot to do and so don’t really notice everyone going back and forth. If you do things with intent then no one will know - dither or look unnatural and people might look…
