Regrets

When the end is near, do you think you'll have regrets or be totally happy with your life and the way it played out ?

Hope this thread might make just one person think and change something for the better, whether that's being in a job they hate or a bad relationship

In the words of Sinatra

And now, the end is near

And so I face the final curtain

My friend, I'll say it clear

I'll state my case, of which I'm certain

I've lived a life that's full

I traveled each and ev'ry highway

And more, much more than this, I did it my way

Regrets, I've had a few

But then again, too few to mention

I did what I had to do and saw it through without exemption

I planned each charted course, each careful step along the byway

And more, much more than this, I did it my way

Yes, there were times, I'm sure you knew

When I bit off more than I could chew

But through it all, when there was doubt

I ate it up and spit it out

I faced it all and I stood tall and did it my way

I've loved, I've laughed and cried

I've had my fill, my share of losing

And now, as tears subside, I find it all so amusing

To think I did all that

And may I say, not in a shy way,

"Oh, no, oh, no, not me, I did it my way"

For what is a man, what has he got?

If not himself, then he has naught

To say the things he truly feels and not the words of one who kneels

The record shows I took the blows and did it my way!

It's hard to live with regrets, It's easier to take the lessons learnt from things.

For me, everything I've ever done it felt right at the time. Everything that has happened has shaped who I am today so I'm secure in that feeling.

I do love that song. I reckon I'll have some regrets, I've taken the wrong path a few times and I'm sure I will continue to do so, but that's life I suppose. There's good and bad to every decision, and who knows which wrong path might lead you to the right one eventually.

No regrets in life just lessons learned. I’d rather say “I can’t believe I did that.” than to look back and say “I wish I did that.”

Exactly this. I wouldn’t be where I am now if I hadn’t made certain decisions many years ago.

I'm going to have regrets for sure but you know...life. You say the wrong thing, do something really daft, don't do something really exciting. I've tried to learn from things I've regretted but occasionally you only get one chance so there's no lesson and no point in regret. I'm pretty sure that some stuff I think is really sensible now will give me cause for regret later in my life.

I think the thing is not to let regret consume you, stuff happens.

Alicante, Spain. (Sometimes in Wales)

I'm not sure I would necessarily call them regrets, but I often wonder what my life would look like if I'd done some things differently.

I like my life and I'm happy. But I do often think, "What if ..."

My I and only regret up to now is not leaving my ex husband sooner.

He started drinking and was abusive and violent when d*unk. I waited 5 years hoping things would change and I'd get the old him back. I should have got out earlier.

I regret not thinking about myself and what I wanted instead of being a doormat and people pleaser for everyone else.

You and me both, lessons learned the hard way and now I think of myself a lot more but still balanced out.

I had a thought that set me off on a better way of thinking.

At some point I will be dead and it won't matter. The world will go on.

Sounds really depressing but it just made me stop giving myself a hard time over shit and helped me start doing good stuff and living a bit more. Thus removing things to have regrets about.

What works for you innit?
