Why don't you rinse your dishes from the washing up liquid?
This has always baffled me, someone once said it's because the washing up liquid is biodegradable |

Having lived with numerous British people, I've never seen once them rinse it.
They always put the soapy covered dishes on the drying rack.
And Google agrees with me this being a thing, so I know I'm not crazy |

"I rinse mine, always have done. Are you sure this is a British thing?"
You can literally Google what I asked and people have been asking this all over the internet
I've also only lived with British people who don't rinse their dishes so the forum people must therefore be an anomaly |

Huh?
I rinse under running water and then wash using washing up liquid and hot water, and a sponge. |

"It's a thing for sure, I've seen it! I Know people who don't. Most do though.
Question is who also showers after a bath? Same concept, just different context. "
Thank you!
I would argue most don't rinse them since I've never seen them rinse before!
Maybe swingers have better cleaning standards
Also you should take a shower or at least rinse after bath because you're swimming in your own filth! |

Wtf!
You wash and rinse and then put it on the drying rack... |

I absolutely would, and I would hope others did too, especially in light of a previous thread concerning people peeing in the bath.... |

I definitely rinse after washing in suds (plates and body)
I also rinse plates before putting in dishwasher on the basis that it uses a very limited amount of water and I'd rather not be just moving stuff from one place to another.
Also, always wash the cat's bowls separately and never use the "human" sponges etc
I also like my cocks freshly washed before I suck them lol |

You rinse each plate under the tap one at a time straight after you've washed it... |

I don't know what you mean? Is it like after you handwash dishes you run them through clean water, or something? I don't do that unless it's glasses. |

You must all have double sinks and mixer taps. My kitchen is 30 years old so I only have a single sink and hot and cold taps. |

Yes, to rinse off the soap! |

I’m guessing the anomaly group is the people you’ve lived with . Maybe you’re a zookeeper? That would explain it!! |

If he does not there is retribution. |

I've never rinsed crockery, cutlery etc after it being lifted out of the sink. But given I live alone, the stuff is only in the rack by a couple of minutes before I finish it off with a clean tea towel.
However, any glassware is washed in fresh separate water. |

"Always rinse and can't say I know anyone who doesn't.. by any chance did you live with students? "
Adults and students!
Read above, it's a serious divide!
I've already thought of a sequel too
Drying rack or draining board |

Problem solved; wash the dishes then take them with you to the bathroom and rinse them in the shower! |

Former housemates don’t which can be quite irritating. |

Nope.
Dishwasher has a rinse program, before the main wash.
Haven't washed plates or anything else by hand for over 30 years.
(We do have wineglasses, which in theory can go in the dishwasher on a gentle program, but to be honest a plastic beaker does the job so the wg's just sit at the back of the cupboard). |

My mum came to stay with me during lockdown 1. Every time she did the dishes, I would secretly re rinse them as getting rid of the suds was not her forte. I was appreciative of her taking the time to do them, but didn't want to increase the tension of lockdown so re-rinsed on the sly.... |

Despite complaining to the landlord to fix the bloody thermostat we have a choice of cold water or "oh my god, I've lost all the skin on my hands water" and only a single bowl sink so we don't rinse - except perhaps wine glasses.
I struggle to find enough time to do everything that I want/need to do in a day as it is without wasting time, water and the planets resources to ensure my plates have the best chance of being streak free - please feel free to judge me

If it's not in the dish washer, then it's rinsed after washing.
This business of "it's all over the internet that Brits don't rinse." I think it's one of these self feeding myths like Brits don't have good food or drink warm beer. It's been seen once or twice then gains currency because people like to join in. |

So shortly after posting to this thread I ended up inhaling large quantities of perfume, hair spray, body spray and what may or may not have been flea spray which made me think. Those of you concerned that they may ingest 0.0054 micrograms of washing up liquid by not riding their plates, do you wear a mask while applying deodorant/perfume/aftershave etc? Or indeed whilst using furniture polish?

I'm with you OP. As a kid we'd fill a soapy washbowl of water and wash dishes
Went to uni, lived with non British people who'd washboard dishes under a running tap.
Mind blown. Not looked back since
(Although houses with water meters avoided) |
