When did nurses start wearing those awful pyjama like scrubs instead of proper, elegant professional looking uniforms?
Perhaps we should start a campaign for proper nurses uniforms to be re instated |

My first wife was a staff nurse, and worked in a small cottage hospital where the 'traditional' uniform was still worn at the time...
....royal blue dress, starched white cap and apron, cinched at the waist by a navy blue belt - and she always wore black stockings with suspenders...
....the 'naughty nurse' image was lost forever when that style was phased out!  |

The hats always fell off and the stockings/tights always got laddered. We wore trousers and tunics after these uniforms but now made to wear scrubs during these covid times. |

Funnily enough, she'd been an ICU nurse in a larger hospital before we got married and she transferred to the smaller one - she'd worn scrubs routinely there, but actually preferred the 'traditional' uniform...
....and the stockings were by choice - she said a glimpse of 'giggle band' always cheered up the male patients!  |

I love nurses and the medical profession in general, not because of the uniform but because they tend to be on a similar wavelength to myself, are caring people and because their job is high stress, when they let themselves unwind, they know how to grab life by balls.
Hats off to all nurses 
Lets stop all this porn fuelled fetishising of the uniform and acknowledge the heroes behind the scrubs. |

A lot of places colour code their scrubs different colours for different departments and jobs and a uniform anyhow makes no difference to how professional someone is. |

Someone very close to me is a critical care nurse. They have told me stuff that makes professional looking uniform the last thing anybody would be considering when their care is needed. |

Can imagine scrubs are alkt cheaper, and when I worked in the hospitals years ago on some words ot was not uncommon to have to change a uniform during a shift. I would rather they wear whatever that are comfortably in the most. They old uniforms I had especially the dress are very unpractical. Fun fact.. they originally based the nurse uniform on a nuns habit as they were the ones who would originally care for the sick. |

Nurses are health professionals... not eye candy.... much as mechanics wear overalls to protect against all of the nasty fluids that come out of cars...
Their work clothes should be practical when dealing with patients and protect them against the nasty stuff they have to deal with every day  |

My mum really thinks this . Although she is coming round to the idea of a mixed sex medical profession since some of her grandchildren became doctors and nurses. |

Just to add - my mum was a nurse in the 60s, when uniforms were insanely strict. She doesn’t have good things to say about the caps that had to be starched and folded perfectly (and complicatedly), and if you messed up folding one you had to get a fresh one and start over; and pinned to your hair (which was also strictly styled) with enough grips to give you a splitting headache. I think she’d have been much happier with modern uniforms! |

I love my scrubs compared to what I used to wear. I’ve been nursing for many years and worn most uniforms. They are the most comfortable, practical things ever.

Right? I can’t imagine having to do that job in that uniform, it must have made it even harder. And my mum found the uniform particularly hard, being 5’10”, it wasn’t really built for her. |

Love nurse uniform esp wondering if they are wearing tights or stockings. But these people are heroes so if scrubs make them.more comfortable at work then so be it they deserve to be and appreciated by all esp after the last year they have had. |

Astonishing isn't it?! Who'd have thought that practical, slightly loose clothing would be the best for long days of being on your feet and hoiking stuff about? I'm glad nurses can wear comfortable clothing to work in nowadays. |
