The Embarrassing Bodies presenter, Doctor Christian, has been ordered by the High Court in Belfast to pay £125,000 compensation to Northern Ireland's Former First Minister Arlene Foster for a defamatory tweet he posted in December 2019.
Furthermore he has been ordered to pay her costs, to solicitor, Paul T, reported to be in excess of £250,000.
The defamatory tweet falsely alleged that Mrs Foster was having an affair with her police Close Protection Officer , and Dr. Christian belatedly joined the proceedings after having claimed that he had not received the legal papers at his mother's address where he was residing.
It is the largest compensation awarded for a defamatory tweet, that Dr. Christian had refused to remove in 2020.
This is a salutary message to those who abuse others online! |
