So just heard a new statue honouring he iconic Marilyn Monroe subway pose is being slammed as Misogynistic and promoting upskirting.

Surely not.....

Any publicity is good publicity as those seeking it say.

I'm sure Ms Monroe didn't mind the way it catapulted her into the realms of stardom

Its a form of rewriting history.

Attitudes have changed but I think its important to understand and not necessarily endorse the attitudes of the time.

Surely the issue is consent? A woman who is well aware of what she is showing and enjoying the attention/laughing and playful is totally different to one going about her life only to find some pervert trying to sneak a look up her skirt?

I think that's right. I'm a little uncomfortable about eradicating all memories of bad things as lessons can be learnt from history. My concern is that once it starts, where do you stop?

Rewriting history is a thing we always do, narratives shift, evidence changes, attitudes change.

It's just in the culture wars it's taken up as this big enemy that "those people" do.

I could announce the sky is blue and somebody somewhere would tell me that I'm wrong.. and its just how I perceive it blah blah blah..

Get used to it, its the internet age! we made the mistake of giving everyone their own personal soapbox! :D

it is what it is! I'm neither woke, nor unwoke. I think both sides are morons! :D

I'd wager history as we know it is FAR from what happened. it has been retconned through the years to suit narratives and victors.

Look, just last year, Assassins Creed Valhalla! A game which glorifies viking raiding on the UK! my point being, 1000 years ago.. those were 'terrorists'.. now we make video games about them.

History is written and often manipulated by the victor! look at the servile rebellions! they almost bought rome to her knees, but ended up as little more than a footnote in history! :P

Like most things context and intent matter.

To one person it could be seen as celebrating MM. To another it could look like she's just an object for their gratification.

MM was well aware of her sexuality and used it to her advantage as she liked. Well done.

When she became an A-lister she also said "that's the last time I'll have to eat a cock" which is indicative of the terrible amount of exploitation and coercion that she had to go through.
