What the feeling about polygamous relationships in the UK

Jump to: Newest in thread

I'm interested to know how people feel about polygamous relationships in the UK, this is non religious based polygamy. I know the concept in the UK with marriage is not legal. But either a wife could take more than one husband or a husband could take more than one wife. Are there people in the UK looking to genuinely join a polygamous relationship?

We have no problem with people doing it if it's right for them but it's not for us personally.

I wouldn't be in favour of a law change to give multiple wives/husbands the same rights under law for reasons I can explain if necessary. I think it should be an arrangement between those involved.

The only poly relationships I ever see are on Twitter and tend to always be dumpy red or blue haired women in dungarees with two or three youngish gamer blokes with wispy beards.

Are there any other types?

It's my idea of hell!

I find relationships difficult - one is too much for me to manage let alone multiple partners.

There are plenty in the US, but it is becoming more popular in the UK. There are normal poly relationship that aren't geeky gamers.

I could easily handle 2 wives as more of a triad polygamous relationship, so we all have a relationship with each other.

I’m a member of a site that is Poly focussed. There is plenty going on in the Uk scene wise.

Watching some of the fallouts over what constitutes a true polygamous relationship is very tiring though. They are always having forum meltdowns over it.

I'd be more inclined toward polygyny at my age ........ pretty wise really.. Loads of female company and he'd be fucking knackered.

Plus im sure at least one or two of the women could do the dirties I don't like AND be better housekeepers.

I'd be the lazy arse that watches t.v. and spends the money

I don't think it's anyone else's business as long as there isn't abuse of some sort happening.

Personally I am poly, no interest in marriage or in raising anymore kids though, 28 yrs of parenting them both just to 18 is quite enough thank you .

I worked for a brilliant family ... it was him, his wife (their kids all grown up and had left home), his concubine, their kid and his girlfriend. All lived together in a smallish house, all worked together in the business and totally excepted in a small Cornish village.

People should be able to date and fall in love with other adults as they want to. The law could potentially be changed to allow more than 2 to be married but many people are less interested in polygamy than in open and poly relationships

My wife and I have been in and out this sort of relationship. The longest was 7 years with Sam's partner living with us. We have been together for 28 years.

I like my polyamourous set up, he lives with his wife during the week and sees me on weekends,

Maybe in the future I'd consider him staying longer but I like my own space too much and find it hard to live with other people to do it full time

I only mentioned marriage because polygamy specifically refers to marriage.

This is very interesting as a guy who’s definitely questioning whether i might be poly. I’ve had a number of monogamous relationships that have all ended with me feeling frustrated and trapped and I don’t just mean sexually. Makes me start to think that for whatever reason I’m not geared up to be a one exclusive partner guy and I’m not sure why that is.

If You’re an atheist you don’t need any laws you don’t have to marry you only have to love and there is no law in that , Everything is in your hands for living life

Absolutely with you on that. Raised a Christian and someone who still believes in a higher power I think you end up with a lot of constraints on you. That said these days I just think well the one global rule we’d all do well by is to live one another. So I think you have great point

I can see how it could work. But the work required to get it to work..

And working out who would be ideally compatible with this while working out who the cock wombles are(male and female) just looking for casual might be a bit of a frigging nightmare!

"We don't believe it is a healthy way to raise a family."

Care to elaborate on this opinion? I don't personaly see why raising a a family in a polyamorous or polygamous relationship is a problem, so long as the child is raised in a stable loving environment it shouldn't make a blind bit of difference that the relationship dynamic doesnt conform to the societal norm, that has been pushed onto us for years basically by the church the same as same sex marriage being considered wrong and banned until fairly recently.

Sure, more love to go around. I don't think I'd ever want to get married again though.
