Sad to hear about this today. Long distance running has lost one of the greats.

Where does he lay in the pantheon of the greats?

.

Way past a lot of the greats, and keep running somewhere past the myths and legends of long distance runners. Is life was insane and his endurance abilities even in old age were astonishing. He might not have the name of some of the others, but every runner growing up had Ron Hill running leggings at some point.

We won't stop at any Pearly Gates. He'll run straight past St Peter and keep going.

"Where does he lay in the pantheon of the greats?"

For me quite high (also helps I met him at once).

He competed in two Olympics, held records, second man to break 2.10 in the marathon, gold medalist in European Championships and I think he ran every day for over 50 years. He also created a clothing line that used synthetic materials a first in the 1970’s.
