"I would rather stand alone and be me
Than stand with others and wank while they watch
They are right about the wank too, you really can't beat one" I wonder whether that is the mantra of the (poor) guys who follow couples at clubs...? |

Any club letting me in would be a dive.
I have aspirations above my station |

"(for the less fortunate)
You can only fuck with the dick you've got...What? Even when he is not buying you any drinks? "
Just means be happy with what you have, get on with it and make the best of what you have |

"one of mine is before I do anything, make any decisions in life... that I want to do no harm to any living creature.
What is yours? "
Make the most of every opportunity
Set high standards and strive to achieve
If it's worth doing, do it well
Never give less than 100% |

I certainly aspire while I perspire
Some find it severe, to persevere while they are here |

Way over Yonder, that's where I'm bound |
Good, better, best. Never let it rest until your good is better and your better is best.
My primary school head started every assembly with this and it has stuck over the last forty odd years.

Arse End of the Universe, Cumbria |
I read the Desiderata every single day and have done for about the last 20 years at least....I have a copy of pinned next to my computer at work and it's on both my laptops.....I don't pretend to be able to follow all of it, but I do try to mostly live by its ideas, it's a shame we can't highlight on here cos I'd highlight the bits I'm working on....here it is, in my mind it is the most beautiful piece of text ever written
Go placidly amid the noise and haste, and remember what peace there may be in silence.
As far as possible without surrender be on good terms with all persons.
Speak your truth quietly and clearly; and listen to others, even the dull and ignorant; they too have their story.
Avoid loud and aggressive persons, they are vexations to the spirit.
If you compare yourself with others, you may become vain and bitter;
for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself.
Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans.
Keep interested in your career, however humble; it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time.
Exercise caution in your business affairs; for the world is full of trickery.
But let this not blind you to what virtue there is; many persons strive for high ideals;
and everywhere life is full of heroism.
Be yourself.
Especially, do not feign affection.
Neither be critical about love; for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment it is as perennial as the grass.
Take kindly the counsel of the years, gracefully surrendering the things of youth.
Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune. But do not distress yourself with imaginings.
Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness. Beyond a wholesome discipline, be gentle with yourself.
You are a child of the universe, no less than the trees and the stars;
you have a right to be here.
And whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.
Therefore be at peace with God, whatever you conceive Him to be,
and whatever your labors and aspirations, in the noisy confusion of life keep peace with your soul.
With all its sham, drudgery and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world. Be careful. Strive to be happy.

"if your angry and are going to complain about something, always do it tomorrow,chances are you will have calmed down by then and it wont seem worth it,also stops you from making a fool of yourself" Great point and worth bearing in mind - OH uses the phrase "act in haste and repent at leisure" ...similary sort of thing.

Blonde Caz you are so right about Desiderata. The one l have on my wall was given to me by my Dad about a month before he died and l am sure it was his way of saying 'chris l can't be with you but my spirit and these words can be with you forever'.
On a lighter note "the arse you kick on your way up might just be the same arse you have to kiss on your way down"

Another one of mine is by a very famous (foreign) poet and it translates into ...
"You can build beautiful things even from the stones that were put in your path"
I like it because it is so positive. |
