"The first one that truly sticks in my mind is the Dunblane massacre. I was home sick from school. It's the first news story that made me cry"
I travel to Dundee a lot and pass the signs to Dunblane, I always say a little prayer for them as I pass through |

"Yeah it was Elvis’ death or more specifically watching his funeral
Forgot to add I was probably playing with my toys - I was 4."
This for me too. I just remember all the cars and the sad faces. I too was only 4 |

I can remember Chirchill's funeral as well
What does stick in my mind very vividly though is the grounding and then the break up of the Torrey Canyon in 1967. It was and still is the worst environmental disaster to the UK's shoreline. I'll never forget the 100's of thousand's of seabirds just drowning in oil. |

The dunblane massacre, I was in primary school and remember them putting coded locks on the doors and not feeling very safe in school, horrible feeling.
Or Princess Diana's death. |

"Falklands!!..10yrs old..
Always reckon that made me join the Navy years later..."
Ha ha. The day I joined Dartmouth, we were told..we are now at war!.....fuck. We were never going of course but we nearly got sent to Ascension to do menial tasks. A friend who was doing his sea time when it started went with the ship and spent his time up a mast with an SLR and instructions to shoot at anything that came near and wasn't the ship's helicopter. |

Hillsborough as it happened on my 6th birthday.
I remember seeing it on the news and saying to my mum "look at those naughty people on the pitch"
She came over and I will never forget the look on her face as she said "I don't think they are being naughty, something horrible is happening".

9/11 sticks in the memory always, one of those moments where the world stood still
More recently the first major news updates on Covid when the reality of the situation and seriousness was made clear , I know people are sick of hearing about it now, but the first headlines were scary and shocking
On a positive note 2015, when Ireland
voted to legalise same sex marriage , and become first country in the world to do so by popular vote |
