Should be illegal
No-one should be owning an automatic
If you can't drive a manual then invest in a push bike not a piece of shit that more often than not gives you a fucken bad head
I got there in the end though
Test run in the morning |

That's a valid point
Id appreciate them buying automatics that don't break |

Hahahahaaa yeah because all automatics are slow.
Mine only came in an auto as the manufacturer at the time didn't make a manual that would fit into the chassis that could handle the torque.
Also, you do know that all modern Bugatti's are equipped with a type of automatic gearbox as are Maclarens and most Ferrari's.
I think you need to go back to college and re-sit your mechanics day release course OP |

Just plant your left foot on the foot rest and concentrate.
And if it isn't a 7g-tronic, steptronic, DSG or S-tronic. Don't buy it. |

As someone who used to rein company drivers and have driven all sorts of high performance cars it used to amaze me the number of people who used to come out with that statement
Then you take them on a country lane and they hardly ever change gear,
They don't change to overtake they dont change when they slow down
nut the Auto does |

Wouldn't buy a manual ever again, and in not too long doubt many manufacturers will make them. All high end cars use a form of auto (dual clutch or torque converter) they are better on fuel, better to drive, faster, and more reliable. Simple. |

I quite like my auto quashqi it has the option for manual change but there's no point unless u want to thrash it around, and the auto change is so smooth on it compaired to the old autos that I have driven no jolt at all as it changes. |

Not true, most very high power cars are autos, almost all drag cars are auto, all high performance 'sports' cars are auto.
They can be built to much higher tolerance as they don't have a dimwit trying to change gears in them. |

I can and do drive both, but prefer my auto.
Driving is just a chore and a method of getting from a to b. The easier that chore is the better, so I really don't understand why anyone would want to make it more effort. |

OK, but what about those people who, like me, have had automatic Company Cars?
I'd two in part of my career, even though I learnt to drive and pass my Test on a Manual Car.
Given the choice, I'd have an automatic car each time.
Plus, to extend your argument to other vehicles, for example, look at today's modern bus fleets. They are virtually all with Automatic gearboxes.
Thus, are you saying they should be taken off the road? |

Back in the day (80's) I was very anti autos - but to be fair I had some bad experiences (owned a rover SD1 in an auto!)
they were pretty shit back then, clunky to drive, poor Performance, uneconomical & unreliable & expensive when things went wrong.....
However times change & with work over the last 8 years I've had 2 or 3 hire cars a week - there aren't many makes, models, variants I haven't driven & I hate to admit it but the performance & fuel economy of modern autos is pretty impressive - almost unnoticeable compared to like for like manuals,
I currently have two cars - both manuals but as I have a fucked left ankle, knee & hip when the time comes my next truck is going to be an auto - but not an SD1!! |

I have an auto Mitsubishi Outlander. For a big diesel, I get 40+ mpg out of it, and it's quite quick off the mark, too. I always left-foot brake when driving an auto, as I don't like my left foot sitting there doing nothing. I can also brake late into corners and accelerate out of them whilst still braking. |

I don't think anyone has taken offence, I just think people are fed up with the way you make a strongly worded statement and rather than listen to anyone else's opinions you make fun of them, ignore them or just repeat your opinion as if it's fact.
That is not how decent conversations are held, it's just how to annoy people.

I actually passed my driving test six weeks after my seventeenth birthday, and then took another one some time later for manual cars. It was very handy because passing a driving test in an automatic was a piece of piss. I have subsequently been told by a driving examiner that most of them don't particularly like people who are qualified to drive automatic, and then sit a manual test because, unless they do something drastically wrong involving the use of the gears, it's very difficult to fail someone who can jump out of a Fiesta, and roar off in an automatic jag. Plus of course, automatic gives you a free hand for tweaking nipples, stroking thighs, and getting your lady so wet that you just have to get a convenient pull in off the road. GOD bless the automatic gearbox! |

Torque converter and planetary transmissions can handle far more torque than conventional frictional engaged and helical cut manual gearboxes.
Hence why the most modern performance cars now come with auto set ups.
Then there is the full electric argument lol |

It's reasonable to have drivers to be fully able to drive the car that they're in, before putting themselves and others at risk. If you're not safe to be driving, just don't drive.
As fully autonomous vehicles get onto our roads, the driving will be done less by poor drivers and more by the system intelligence. |

That is not how decent conversations are held, it's just how to annoy people.
I can't help thinking that that is why you do it and that you just like trolling.
"
It's always a bit crass to define and vilify people by the car they drive, the newspaper they read, the colour they like, the music they enjoy, their age, race, nationality etc. It's the sort of thinking that creates division and we know where that can lead. |

Anyone who has had to sit on the M25 or M6 in a manual car should try it and then see what their preference is.
Personally I have a semi-automatic but when we're all electric this conversation is irrelevant. |

"Should be illegal
No-one should be owning an automatic
If you can't drive a manual then invest in a push bike not a piece of shit that more often than not gives you a fucken bad head
I got there in the end though
Test run in the morning "
Actually… most cars in the world are automatic.. not manual
And I think I’d rather have one less thing to worry about and concentrate on the road rather than having to mes round with a stick!!
Also from a reliability point of view automatic have less that can go wrong with them and are therefore more reliable….
But heck… you keep being a Luddite and keep your hand occupied |

"Nothing wrong with auto.
You may as well get used to it as they are getting more popular, especially as all electric cars are auto. "
My next car is likely to be the baby Tesla… or if I can stretch then maybe a model y… I don’t get why people who drive manual are against those who want one less thing to worry about when driving |

It's usually boy racers and aggressive middle aged drivers that moan about automatics but happy to have power windows, steering and air conditioning installed. What is about changing gears that give them a hard on? |

Manuals handle far more torque than auto boxs :-
Car with most torque = electric = ludicrous speed mode on my Tesla but only available in Auto... I think the world has moved on"
It still has a gearbox in the motors, just not a variable ratio box. |

As far as reliability goes, I think that you’ll find that there is much, much more that can go wrong. |

The worst automatic gearbox’s have to be the awfully slow and unreliable smg units fitted to BMWs in the early to mid 2000s the e46 m3 manual was far better to drive and the less said about the e60m5 smg the better and the vanos issue and the rod bearings that’s what happens when the bean counters get involved and shove the engineers out the way but that v10 lump was epic it showed Amg that to get big power you didn’t need turbos or superchargers |

Ask anyone that travels through any busy city in stop start traffic.
The auto wins hands down.
We have 5 cars, 2 autos, 2 manuals and a tiptronic, which can be driven in manual or auto.
Prefer the autos, but as long as its in a modern car.
Now old cars, then that's a different story. |

"OP go take a test drive in a Tesla model 3 performance and then report back here
I wouldn't class an electric as an auto.
It’s not a manual "
It's not an anything, let's be honest, boredom in a car form. |

I’m assuming you’ve driven one then? I’m my opinion it’s far from boring. We all have different likes and dislikes |

I think for every day driving around town and motorways then automatic is perfect but when your out driving bendy B roads in something that weighs less than 500kgs I’d stick to moving my shiny gear knob around . |

Balancing and positioning the car by using the torque and power of the engine doesn’t really work with auto does it.
Just when you’ve got it set up it goes and changes gear on you |

I’m sure that manual boxes are excellent for showing off your manual skills on a racetrack...
On real roads it’s not getting you anywhere faster and just something to relieve the tedium of congestion and keeping your license.
I have a rather large American toy with a rather large engine and auto box... love the easy torquey drive, soul warming burble and kick down punch.
Just give me cheaper fuel... pleeease! |

What about people with disabilities? "
I had my manual adapted so I could continue to drive it, instead of buying an auto but that's because it actually worked out cheaper. I have a hand operated clutch (Google duck clutch). It's brilliant - all cars should have one!
I hire autos on holiday etc because obviously I can't get hand operated manuals. I prefer the adapted manual by a country mile though.
But yes, some people with disabilities need autos. Like my FWB (below knee amputee). He doesn't have a left foot/lower leg so drives an auto. |

I'm as above.
Yes they're fast, not much faster than either of mine though, however, they are soulless to drive in my opinion. Driven a few just to see what they were about and not for me. |

I'd have a good automatic any day over a manual, but they need matching with a torquey engine to get the best from them.
The 7 speed automatic gearbox on my old Merc CLK 320 CDI was excellent, but the engine complimented it nicely, whereas something like an automatic on shopping cart engines like a 1.4 or 1.6 is a woeful experience. |
