What sort of books do you enjoy?
I’ve got a bit of a random selection on the go;
The State of Affairs - Rethinking Infidelity (relationship based, incredibly thought provoking)
The Joy of Being Selfish (setting boundaries, learning to say no)
Return of the Ickabog (it’s a kids book, I’m not even sorry )
I wouldn’t mind getting into some ‘chick lit’ but no idea where to start. |

I've not had a chance to read to myself for ages.
The last books would have been a selection of books by Issac Asimov.
I'm reading Alex Rider to my lad though (which is like a teen Bond). It's supringly good. |

Thanks for the suggestions. Will look into most.
Big fan of the spook and thrillers. But I enjoy some other genres from time to time. Depends on the mood

If you enjoy erotica, there’s an author writing under the name October Woods on Amazon. Kindle ebook editions and some paperbacks available. Quite a few titles including a very good full length book about the experiences of a real uk swinging couple. Found them a good read. |

I'm reading Crusader by Ben Kane, it's the second in his Lionheart series. I'm not sure what to think of it, it's well written and there's a good mix of historical fact with fiction. But it feels very 'boys own' and that is beginning to grate. |

"Waiting to start The Tattooist of Auschwitz

This is a great book - heartbreaking though!
I’m on the Girl With The Dragon Tattoo books at the moment. Read the first trilogy and on the 2nd book of the next (by a different author). Fantastic books! |

My mum bought me the Dragon Tattoo trilogy for Christmas a few years back and I've never got round to picking them up - are they genuinely worth the effort? |

I have quite eclectic taste in which books I read, depending on my mood and where I am (home/holiday).
When I just want some easy reads I tend to read chic lit or historical fiction. My daughter often buys books for me as presents and that has introduced to to authors I might not have read before, like Elena Ferrante.
I have just finished Philippa Gregory’s Tidelands and enjoyed it so much I bought the follow on book Dark Tides (from EBay as second one is hardback).
The first one is set during Cromwell’s time in Selsey West Sussex and then the next book follows the main character to London.
The historical detail is well researched and written. I could empathise with the woman at the centre of the story and can recommend if you like historical fiction. |

They are - they’re very detailed, so if you like an intricately threaded plot, you’ll enjoy them |

Agreed - the first one took a bit of getting into, but once you're about 100 pages in and it makes sense they hook you completely |

Finished a book the other day called Cities of the Red Night by William Burroughs.
Can't fault the wild, imaginative powers of the guy. The first half of the book in particular is startlingly fresh and full of interesting ideas, but as it went on it became a mess of ejaculations, hangings, numerous young men with erections, and confusing personality swaps and body trading. |

" I wouldn’t mind getting into some ‘chick lit’ but no idea where to start.
I like Marian Keyes, Freya North & Dorothy Koomson

Thank you! "
Couple more: Fiona Walker, and more 'classic' Shirley Conran, Jilly Cooper, Barbara Taylor Bradford and Jackie Collins. All bonk-buster type reads.

I’ve read a lot of Phillipa Gregory but all sound the war if the roses / Tudor times. I’ll have to look the tide books up.
Just finishing Rivers of London by Ben Aaronvitch. Then moving on to either From these Broken Streets, based on the Italian uprising against the Germans in 1943 Naples or Court Number One The Trials and Scandals that Shocked Modern Britain, depending on my mood |

"Currently reading Swing Time by Zadie Smith, the title of which is just coincidental to the swingers scene
If you haven't discovered Z.S. yet, I would also recommend White Teeth."
The only novel of hers that I haven't read is The Autograph Man but I've loved all the others. I've also read some of her non-fiction which is full of beautiful insights. I kind of think that we would have been friends if we had ever met and I don't usually have stalkerish thoughts like that |

Got to love beat novels written while hopped up.
Hunt down the David Cronenberg film of 'The Naked Lunch'. You'll never look at a mugwump the same again. |

Oh Nell! I've read all of them. Bloody fabulous.
You might want to try the Giordano Bruno series by Sarah Parties. Similar, yet different. If you know what I mean x |

The last three. I really enjoyed them, though I agree there were some unsatisfying endings for certain characters.

I’ve just received my package of books and I’m very excited.
I’m going to start with:
Hold Still: A Portrait of our Nation in 2020 by National Portrait Gallery
Not for reading, granted, but beautiful photos submitted by members of the public.
To read:
Humankind: A Hopeful History by Rutger Bregman
Contests the idea that we are innately self-serving and selfish.
If we assume that people are good, we instinctively cooperate rather than compete, trust rather than distrust.
I hope you’ll have a much better day than you thought you would. |

I do and I have lots of shelves of them. I’m trying to de-clutter and the charity shops at the moment don’t want them. I never read a book twice so paperbacks I try to give to friends or charity. I only keep non fiction long term. |

I've just read The Midnight Library, too.... It did cross my mind about all the swinging opportunities I hadnt taken! All the messages I have deleted!
My recommendation for you is 9 perfect strangers, Lianne Moriarty. Its just about to be made into a show with Nicole Kidman and Melissa McCarthy I think, read before its ruined! Matt Haig has sold film rights for ML, too! |
