"Is this going to be the same for misandry? "
Yes... the recommendation is that Gender be added to the list of things protected by hate crime legislation as far as I understand... |

So... the meaning of misogyny is described as
"feelings of hating women, or the belief that men are much better than women" Cambridge Dictionary)
To me that is not a crime even though it has no base for its existence. Open misogyny is easily recognised, but it is more difficult to find and called out the more subtle manifestations.
It is not crime to think whatever you may want to think - it would be against the law to discriminate against women though. |

If it is I imagine the police will be busy. Man hating is at an all time high these days and it’s seen as totally acceptable by a lot of people.
Doubt anything will come of it though. These things need to be very serious to even reach court, and even worse for a conviction |

Gender and sex are already protected characteristics under the Equality Act 2010 and so discrimination on the basis of these characteristics is already illegal, with some very niche exceptions. An exception would be, for example, a domestic violence refuge only accepting people of one gender. |

Assault was already illegal but an assault classified as a hate crime carries a harsher penalty... I believe that's the general basis behind the thinking |

Any crime committed against a protected characteristic is technically already a hate crime. Assault on the basis of religious persuasion, sexuality, political persuasion etc would already be hate crimes. However proving an assault was purely motivated by the gender is perhaps difficult? Also some gender-motivated crimes are more serious than assault and so might be categorised as, for example, a type of sexual assault which carries a heavier sentence? |

Is gender already included under hate crime? As far as I could read it wasnt but I'd happy to be proven wrong |

It should be, because my understanding of a hate crime is a crime specifically targeted at a protected characteristic (of which gender is one). My point was that perhaps it's hard to prove a crime was targeted because of the victim's gender, whereas it's perhaps easier to prove crime targeted at, say, sexual orientation, because the perpetrator may use specific language etc.? If you were to say "I fucking hate you woman" whilst assaulting a woman, you'd still struggle to prove it was mainly motivated because of the fact the victim is female.
The CPS page entitled "Hate Crime" lists all the other protected characteristics as coming under the definition of hate crime, but not gender....... |

Ya that was my understanding was that is wasn't covered already. I get your point about assault. But I guess say something like stalking, revenge porn etc.. probably easier to prove of there is mysoginistic language used...
Even on the assault point though if someone is physically or sexually assaulting a woman and screaming that they are a wh*re or something to the effect then I'm sure there could be a case made for it being a hate crime |
