Way over Yonder, that's where I'm bound |
I understand from the many threads that have been appearing and the change in adverts on the TV that football is about to take over again.
Following the success of women playing the game at the Olympics what are the chances of this getting a higher profile and a bigger audience? |

I cant seem to get into it, the goalkeepers are awful, i dont want to appear sexist, but do they play in full sized goals? I'll say one thing though, they dont dive and cry half as much as the blokes. |

I've just had a look at the World Cup regulations (on the online) and it mentions the colour of the posts and the state of the nets but not the size of the goal area. Not that I know what size it's supposed to be. |

It seems strange they'd be the same as the mens, given women are smaller and cant jump as far/move as fast, i thought it might be like gold tees where women get a little bit of help to alleviate that disadvantge.
"But they haven't got sexy legs like the men have "
I know who's legs i'd rather have my face between.

"I'm confusing myself now. I'd forgotten I'd started this thread after the 2012 Olympics. I wondered why the posts were different to the most recent thread. "
Becuase you are a lady, confusing men is your job. |

"Is my question more relevant now we've had a reasonably publicised and successful World Cup?
"
No. The majority of people, myself included, have no interest whatsoever |

Zero unless women start watching it. Simple facts are women would physically struggle against men in good amateur never mind pro games.
The average Football male in the UK (I don't like football by the way it's too bent on and off the pitch) would only watch women play football if they looked like beach volley ball girls and took their tops off every time they scored!
If women want THEIR Football to take off they are going to have to start watching it themselves cos most blokes think it's a sideshow. |

It seems to me that the women's game embodies much of what has been lost in the men's game. The women clearly love their game every bit as much as the men - more so, in fact, because they do it much more from passion than expectation of reward, and play with far more guts and without writhing around in histrionics any time someone breaks a nail or has hurt feelings... the men could learn a lot from them. |

We were at the women's basketball semis, and the women's football final.
I specifically chose those because women's lower physical strength in sport often leads to more interesting, tactical and intelligent play. And because, cynically, I knew our chances of getting tickets would be greater. So all four of us got to boo Sepp Blatter
Will things change now?
Sadly not. As always in football, rather than the players being lauded for almost getting into the final, everyone is picking fault in this or that aspect of their play.
Football is all about money nowadays, and the sponsers follow the viewing figures, but only having Freeview, we couldn't even watch the majority of matches
Our team did us proud, and I wish there was more women's sport on telly.
(Or that the men had to go back to using a heavy, wet, leather ball, to stop them just kicking it from one end to the other, waiting for the set-pieces or penalties.)

Being a Welshman I enjoyed watching England Women and supported them, as I do with the men, unless they are playing Wales, or perhaps even Scotland.
I think they matched the men for passion, if not surpased them. (That might not even be a real word). Ive seen both sets of players get upset when loosing.
Im sick to the back teeth of people trying to compare them to the men, the players dont want you to.
England men played superb in there last outing and Jack Wilshire's goal was one of the best I have ever seen. One touch passing and finished with a screamer.
Please remember its not the players fault they earn and pay in tax and give to charity what they do. Saying they are over paid isnt part of an arguement.
If you were offered £70k a week but thought you were only worth £280 what would you do?
Ive consistantly said the basic errors were suprising. Ive given example of England consistantly giving the ball away, even with throw in's and the last 6 goals in Englands last 2 games all came from one error to another.
I think though with the next crop of juniors coming through these errors won't be so frequent, girls football is on the curriculum and there are far more many local teams to join than there was 10 years ago.
I hope this sport continues to grow and the general standard improves, its refreshing how 99% of the time they just get up and get on with it. As it grows I hope the support network does too, more than anything the commentators, they as many daft things as the England manager does.
Next Messi my arse.
Well done ENG ladies, please dont get battered by Germany tomorrow, safe flight home |
