Who does your hair?
Jump to: Newest in thread
I was dark haired as a kid and went grey quite early, thanks to my dad's side who eventually go pure white!
I have mainly always dyed my own hair....it was the only way I could afford it.
Now, after going through all the colour shades from black to blonde, I'm happy with the colour.
The hairdressers often ask what I use.
Do you dye your own hair?
The last time the hairdressers did mine it was about £130 for a cut and colour!

Never dyed my own hair the thought terrifies me! I’m a natural blonde but slightly on the darker end of the scale now, usually I go for a ash or silvery tone. Been going to the same guy for 15yrs I wouldn’t trust anyone else with it. Xx

For nearly the last two years, I've cut and dyed my own hair. My son's godmother done it for 12 years before that but I moved too far away to be able to pop back for a hair cut
I hate my hair being handled at the best of times so I'd never go to a hair dressers. |

I don't dye mine, over lockdown I did put a dark brown wash in wash out dye in mine. Looked really nice.
Though I love my natural colour, and starting to get defined grey stripes now. My hairdresser always comments on the lack of grey so I was very proud showing her my cougar stripes |

I've never dyed my hair.
It used to be very blonde but now it's more honey blonde with hint's of grey.
I used to have it cut into layers / bangs regularly but since Covid i've learned to cut it myself.

The hairdresser. I find one I like and stick with them. My current hairdresser isn't expensive as hairdressers go, just over £50 for root touch up and a trim, I never have it blow dried I always hate it. I go every six weeks. Last lockdown I let the roots grow through and hated it, I came very close to getting Mr N to do them for me (as he did in first lockdown) but held out. |

I won't go just anywhere and shy away from some of the chain barbers that have appeared - if I move somewhere new I tend to nose round the various barbers in the town until I find one I like the look of - hasn't failed me yet.
My daughter cut mine over lockdown with a pair of clippers - Grade 3 all over I think, and did the job although prefer to have a barber cut it - have never paid more than £11 plus tip |

My best friend has been cutting mine for 26 years now, I used to have a box dye every couple of months, but to embrace my grey I have alternating low/high lights and a style and that costs £58 twice a year and I have 2 shampoo and cuts a year that is £15 |

I don’t dye my hair, I stopped two years ago (I used Henna and did it myself at home). I’m now letting the grey grow, as well as my hair.
I aim to have hair like Gandalf. I’ve also stopped having my hair cut so frequently so hopefully not much longer to wait |

I dye mine myself. I use Superdrug’s hair dye as they don’t test on animals. The thought of a rabbit (or any other animal) having bleach dropped in their eyes for my vanity is more than I can stomach. |

About 20 years ago I had long hair, I rebelled when I left the army so didn't get it cut for years, he took great delight in cutting it off and then asked if he could send it to the people that make wigs for cancer patients |

I travel back to my home town to get my hair done as its cheaper than in a city. I also love my hairdresser. It is pricey but I don't do nails, eyelashes or any other beauty treatments (except a bikini wax) that most of the other women around me seem to get. I also only have one handbag and not a great deal of shoes so I guess paying for my hair is my personal indulgence. It costs me nearly £100 once a year when she redoes the whole thing (bleach and colour) and then about £60-70 every other month to top up the colour in between. I'm lucky really that balayage can grow out and still look fine. |

It’s divine. That warm towel before and after.....it’s quite serene. The shop smells of sandalwood and leather and the sound of the barber’s footsteps on the oak floor...my little slice of heaven. |

Really? Gosh I can't imagine it. My mum was the exact same colour naturally but she tends to dye hers lighter colours now. Maybe because it hides her greys easier I guess. I used to help her dye it when I still lived at home so she didn't miss behind her ears! |

My step-mum has a salon and she's been cutting my hair for years, although I'm lazy about making appointments and often do it myself. Due to very sensitive skin I was grey until a fortnight ago when I dyed it with a product that doesn't leave me with weeping sores like most hair dyes do. I'm brunette again, but my hair has grown over 1cm in those 2 weeks. There's no way I can leave it 6 weeks between colours. |

"I've never dyed my hair.
It used to be very blonde but now it's more honey blonde with hint's of grey.
I used to have it cut into layers / bangs regularly but since Covid i've learned to cut it myself.
"
I'd have been much too nervous to cut more than a fringe into mine.
With me now being blonde the greys are so much easier to handle. |

"I dye mine myself. I use Superdrug’s hair dye as they don’t test on animals. The thought of a rabbit (or any other animal) having bleach dropped in their eyes for my vanity is more than I can stomach. "
I totally agree and understand where you're coming from. You've just made me stop and think...I've never checked out the product I use |

"Nige does mine, £9 and it probably shows. Grey's are starting to poke through in places but I'm not too bothered "
Wait we are talking head hair, right? Never sure what to expect here |

I haven't had a professional cut my hair since before lockdown and been maintaining it myself. I've never colored my hair even though it's going white at speed. My hair hasn't been this long since I was a child, and I'm kind of liking it.

I haven't had any highlights for a few years now...I realised that I was paying £100 a time for what the sun does for free
So now I have natural highlights through the summer, and they grow out and give an ombre look through the winter. |

I feel very blessed to be able to shave my head in the shower. I used to have it peroxide blonde in my teens and early 20's so know it takes some keeping up to . I was married for 20 years so know it's not cheap to get a decent hair cut these days |

I just paid £60 for a root touch-up and colour 'drag'
It's normally £40 if it's just cut and around £85 for cut, foils and blow dry
I used to dye my own hair, but its so tedious |

Me with clippers which is just so damn easy as I do my face at the same time.
Shaved it all off at least 20 years ago which was hard as I had long curly hair but it was just so much better not being full of dust and crap!!!!

Before lockdown I discovered Turkish master barber and absolutely love it there, best haircuts I’ve ever had, they take about an hour, I get Turkish coffee, waxes and flames neck, ears and nose hair , properly styles hair and then does some weird stuff on my skin with creams and sprays, all for £9 but it’s too cheap so I normally give him £15 |

That’s so cheap for women’s, Keith hall charge £75 per hour so for a cut and colour it’s cost me over £200 for each child each time |

I'm actually contemplating changing barber's. Slightly more up market one charges the same as my local one I go to. Who know's maybe they will give me a trim that will be a cut above the rest. Always risky trying a new barber though. |

"i do it myself... im a brassic student
hair/nails/brows/lashes/wax ... DIY Px "
I'd love to be able to do all that stuff.
I tried to do my nails once...it didn't go to plan
All of those treatments add up in cost that's for sure! |

You look like you have a really good head of hair.
If you think someone can do better why not go for a change |

To be fair my hairs an after thought I don’t give much care too, it’s all about getting my beard tamed every 5/6 weeks. I’ve been using the same old school barbers in Nottingham for 10 years. |
