My grandson has always been given pocket money.

But now he's a bit older he has to earn it.

Do you give your kids pocket money?

Do you make them earn it?

I think it's a good lesson.

I used to be given pocket money which I could choose to spend on school lunch or save and take a packed lunch. I would save it and ended up buying my first computer.

I used to get pocket money regardless but if we wanted non-essentials, we had to buy them ourselves. I think it was a good lesson in the value of money. I even used to save mine up to buy random gifts for my mum.

My lads earn their money from me, my youngest makes a game out of cleaning the toilet. The oldest was mopping my kitchen last weekend, happily as I downloaded a game on his device straight after.

They now ask for jobs before asking me for toys or downloads.

Mine have to earn it. I have a big extended family so they get lots of birthday and Xmas money, which lasts them a long time. They start asking for chores to do once it runs out.

I love that, the gifts for your mom ...that's really lovely.

It feels good when your child does that.

I think it’s a great way to introduce kids to life skills and the value of money.

My friend has a list of jobs on her fridge and a how much each job is worth.

The kids have to earn their money and all the jobs are always done.

They are 8, 10 and 13 and it works well for them as a family.

Some of them were a bit strange looking back . But I think she appreciated the thought and me using my own money on her instead of myself.

I have a “chore score” sheet for my two children. Each chore has a certain value, which we record and tot up - at the end of the week they can convert to pocket money or minutes on the Xbox/PC. seems to work very well. They started trading minutes!

Mine gets pocket money which pays for her phone contract. To earn it she does chores. No chores, no phone!
