"Lots of talk of making it an offence but deep down do any women past their prime take it as a compliment and makes them feel young and desirable again "
Do you when it happens to you? |

I think it's a bit outdated now and should be put in a box and burried along with blokes leaning out of car and van windows shoutint oi oi!!
If I see a fit woman out and about I can appreciate her without having to make a pratt of myself |

Oops, pressed send to quickly...
When is a woman past her prime, out of interest?
Also curious as to when is a man past his prime?
Finally, when the man is not past his prime, should be be allowed to wolf-whistle a woman whom he perceives to be not past her prime and what would happen if he wolf-whistled a woman who is past her prime but does not think she is?

If I heard a wolf whistle I'd assume probably correctly that it wasn't aimed at me. I'm waaay past my prime I've graduated to being at the peak of my awesomeness, I confidently expect to remain here for the rest of my life |

I've enjoyed it and flirted back but unprompted male attention can be a problem for many and I've certainly had very uncomfortable situations caused by men that are frightening. Ideally men would be as light as possible with their shows of appreciation, though the lighted of any could be distressing. |

I don't think it should be an offence but I do think that *some* men should stop and think about their actions. A general rule I think would be useful to apply is "would I be happy for my mothet/sister/daughter/partner to be treated this way?"
The same should apply to women but in general it's men who wolf whistle or parrots.
I don't know if it would make me feel young and desirable again as it hasn't happened to me since about 1976. I'm happy being old and desirable |

"Surely some older ladies take it as a compliment especially if they are on the downslope "
no at first I didn't think you meant to offend when you said past their prime just thought you had a way with words which won't take to everyone's fancy.
You and I are gonna age at some point but with the right should age gracefully
However you gone too far OP and I feel like you don't care who you offend. That's very rude, as we can have our opinions nothing stops us being mindful and respectful.
How you present yourself on these forums could affect your meets off here so it doesn't make sense to block yourself of that but its up to you end of the day *shrugs shoulders* |

I was watching an interview a couple of months ago. A spokesperson from a organisation stated that due to Misogyny, that they wanted not only wolf whistles , but any male who winked , smiled or even sat next to a female etc in public transport . Could be reported to authorities. Interviewer who was female , tried to say that was impossible to enforce and how would any male approach a female in public place. This would include pubs ,clubs etc. Also as interviewer said without giving her full details away. Stated she would not have met her husband if that type of law in place
as a lot of males would not perhaps approach / try chatting with a female if they new could be reported.Realise a bit extreme if did happen? |

I think the answers on this thread show the issues with a blanket approach, some find it intimidating, others flattering. Some may find it flattering in some circumstances and intimidating in others.
I've pointed out to my lovely lady that she has thoroughly enjoyed the kind of attention from some guys that she has described as creepy and disgusting off others - generally the deciding factor is how attractive she finds them.
However, as above, if men (and women in fact) made more of an effort to consider how their behavoir is likely to make others feel there would likely be far less intimidated, insulted and upset people in the world.

"^ didn't make a lot of sense....
I've never liked wolfwhistles. It's creepy. "
Basically any female could report a male for any unwanted approach in any place. How would authorities be able to confirm this etc. The interviewer said , how often in UK , is it that female who actually approaches male , in pubs , etc ? |

Come on lads, no more own goals. The facts aren't in our favour.
Prime:
Men in 20's
Women in 30's
It's hard to walk one one foot, especially when the other is in your mouth.

Just don't be creepy and if someone says they don't like it stop. How hard is that? |

Perhaps play devils advocate . How many females on here have met , been approached chatted to in real world and at first thought no way etc . Yet gone on to be marry , be partners etc . ? The interviewee was stating that this is what law was required.
My point was how far does law go. ?
Yes from experience. Years ago while working away while at that time single, actually met my ex wife while away. Another guy who also single did not care about chatting females up. Even if married . He would do in front of husbands. His success rate with females getting dates etc was very good . But he did get hurt physically a lot of times.

I'm part my prime but then so are the men I fancy
I've always found wolf whistling quite uncomfortable and you never know if it's directed at you unless you're the only person in sight
Had to walk past two barracks on the way to school so learnt very quickly to ignore it, then found another route to school
Seriously a lot of people don't realise how intimidating it can feel

Again, unclear.
How far does the law go? In many cases, not far enough. Ideally? Far enough to protect the safety of individuals going about their daily business without interference or harassment. |

Oh dear, OP has helpfully put himself on my block list.
I'd definitely like wolf whistling and catcalling strangers to be consigned to the dustbin. Some women just suffer endless microaggressions day in, day out for years- it's very wearing! And absolutely makes some people feel unsafe. However, walking into a meet or a club and hearing it as an expression of appreciation is lovely, when you're on the same page. Not great when you're walking down the street thinking about work or shopping |

If you don't smile back will they get pissed off.
If you do smile back will they think that it's an invitation.
Men on threads like this often say but not all men are like that....
But how do we know which ones will turn nasty. |

Apparently fly they're not allowed to do this any longer (site rules). The new shout out is "cuckoo" these days, so the lads can rush out and have a look!! . (Got that little bit of info from a very reliable source!! Lol) |

I don't see how that's relevant and your mate sounds like a dick.
Great that it worked out for you and your misses but the point of the law would be to stop unwanted approaches so, as I said, if the woman says no thank you but the guy carries on then that's where it comes in to play.
I've seen lord of videoss where women have told a guy she's not interested yet they continue harassing them. It's really uncomfortable viewing. |

I have used that to discreetly draw attention to a passing lady who has passed my field of view. I’m not a wolf Whistler but I do like to admire discreetly without making a lady feel uncomfortable. |

Women of my generation that I talk to find it a compliment, as long as it isn't accompanied by any vulgarities. Younger women seem to be more sensitive about it. It's not something I've ever done, I'm not that forward.. |

Tom, your choice of words to describe women who are getting older is less than polite, to say the least.
I always rather liked getting wolf whistles when I was younger and never felt intimidated, only flattered.
Though I know that many women feel very differently, I don't think banning them would help.
What we need is better education accross the board. Remember that it's not just men, d*unk women seem to think mokesting men is perfectly acceptable... it isn't. |
