I find the Israel / West Bank conflict annoying, why do two religions feel the need to fight?

The Muslim and Christian and Jewish religions have fought against one snd other for 2 millennium

Yet they are all closely connected..

Religion..

It seems to me if these deities were real they would surely stop the death and destruction made in their name..

Can’t see why the need to kill anyone tbh

Religions : man made ideologies to control the masses and gain land.

Wouldn't it be great if by believing in God (or not) and being kind to each other was enough.

Religion often gets the blame but in reality it has nothing to do with it. Some people feed starving kids in the name of their god, some take care of elderly or the poor or homeless. Others kill people.

Religion is simply an invented concept that helps people make sense of the world and gives them purpose and reason. People use it to justify and explain their behaviour. Some people use it as a tool for controlling others, getting them to do what they want.

We blame "religion" as though it is some kind of entity that has an existence outside human thought and has the capacity to influence people. Religion is just another name for human imagination. If we all stop believing things exist simply because there's no evidence for them then human society would collapse. Money only works because enough people buy into the idea. Justice, human rights, nation states, democracy, legal codes - they all rely on our ability to agree common stories and act as if they're real. Without them, we would go back to tribal packs like the apes we evolved from. Religion is just another story that some people agree means they should behave in certain ways - if you want to change their behavoir, don't blame the story, blame the people. But until you give them a new story nothing will change.

I think politics has more to do with Israel and the West Bank.

In the '70s/'80s the PLO were more left leaning rather than religious as that was the dominant alternative ideology at the time.

Since the collapse of the USSR and the end of the Soviet-Afghan war Islamism has become the dominant ideology, in some parts of the world, on which to hang political views on.

Religion is just another set of ideas like Communism or other -isms which people then turn to their own agendas. It gives some people a way to make sense of the world whether that is for good, bad or indifferent reasons.

It's easy to get reductive and blame religion, but really the issues in the Middle East are so messy and complicated that blaming any one thing is a disservice to the situation. Can only hope it gets resolved without much more bloodshed, but that's a faint hope.

Its an excuse to dislike someone, your god which is the same as mine but likes blue instead of purple is why i hate you???

The problem is society is still surrounded by it, when a school can be closed for daring to mention a certain religious figure where on a slow poor road to nowhere

Sooner the world wakes up to the “excuse” the better

Not to disregard the work religious charity groups do however and the community

And do not get me started on the “gods saving people from covid” lot, if hes saving them he bloody created it!!!

I’ve worked in both places, and it’s more deep rooted than just religion, too vast a debate to have on here, the only clear indication you’ll get is who Votes left and who votes right.

It’s very political, cultural, divisional and self defensive.

Plenty of defence journal writings in this that are pretty unbiased towards either side

Fareham

More nationalism. Jewish versus Arab. Jewish settlers returned to Palestine and effectively seized it after WW2. The Palestinians became second class civilians in a country they’d thought of as home for two thousand years.

Only the backing of the US allowed Israel to succeed.

Hot topic I know.

People would of only found another excuse. Religion doesn't start conflict, people do.

A lot of sense in the response, whilst most of it I can agree with, there are some things that don’t explain why religions and zealots fight other religions that they don’t agree with..

My original point isn’t really about religion, it’s about fanatics and the fact people are turned by listening to the garbage they preach.

Too many people have died in the name of their religious beliefs, so whilst a lot of what you say is sort of true, a lot of bad things come from brainwashing people into believing fanaticism
