I see a lot of people describing themselves as "professional" on here.
What does that exactly mean?
Are you a professional footballer/cricketer?
Perhaps you play tiddlywinks?
Can someone explain what this means? Thanks

"Google the meaning of professional, dead easy "
"relating to or belonging to a profession"
What my follow up question is, what does this have to do with fab?
Assuming that most of us work and have a profession on here. But I've seen a lot of people use the term "professional" on their profile like a status thing.

It adds to the summation of the type of people they are. They have decent jobs, probably add witty comments to indicate they have fun personalities etc. |

I don’t think necessarily agree it is a status thing. Professional burglar is nothing to boast about. Unless you are Danny Ocean. Or have the kudos of being the person that professionally burgled Shergar. |

It’s often used to explain why people won’t share a face pic with you, even privately.
I’ve always taken it to mean that they think they’re a cut above and slightly too good to be here. |

It's to put off people who are offended by the word or don't understand what it means.
It works well. |

It usually means they work in a profession that requires a ‘professional’ membership i.e. letters after their name. Further to your question as to what it has to do with fab, I’d say absolutely nothing. I work in such a profession and would never put that I’m a professional on my profile. I think it implies a degree of snobbery. |

I would see it as someone of a similar educational level. For me who seeks regular, there would be a better chance we would have compatibility. I would rather read a paragraph stating they hold a professional job, than I can lick for hours, breathe through my ears, up for anything, ask me anything...... |

Its a bit like the Sydney University thing. They have seen it in other people's profiles so now think it's obligatory. As someone above has stated there are only a handful of recognised professions such as doctor, lawyer, teacher but that usage is fairly archaic and now it just seems to imply having a decent job, probably white collar. |

Exactly this I don't see it as snobbery, just a nod that they have a certain lifestyle and level of education, and that they are probably looking for similar.
I'm not sure that it works as a filter for people...but live and let live, it's their profile, and if it has negative connotations for you then it's easy to use that as a cue to dismiss that profile. |

It makes a lot of people very cross. It's just another way to describe yourself really. Nobody complains when people say they're a tradesman or in the uniformed services (unless they're using it as a reason why people should meet them) and if you say you're a nurse you'll be celebrated but mention the word professional and it's open season. |

I’m a nurse and a member of a professional body, who regulate my standards, (at work and outside, hence my pictures being very boring.) I don’t always talk about what I do as I can often get drawn into stuff. So I sometimes say I’m a professional. It’s not meant to be snobbish.

Most people who say they're professional aren't meaning to be snobs. It's other people's perceptions that lead them to make that inference.
Interestingly reverse snobbery is often applied |

It is a bit dodgy being seen to be on a swinging site as a nurse. Maintaining a public image to the public and professionals. Casual sex would not be viewed as a positive image of nursing by the NMC. |

Professional used to mean a (real) Engineer (not a fitter or technician), Doctor, Lawyer, or a Surveyor type. Nowadays it appears any old dick who works in an office identifies as a Professional.
If that's what they like to do, hey ho |

It isn’t, as long as you conduct yourself in an appropriate manner. If I had pictures of my erect cock, or was engaging in sexual acts with others, it could be seen as public indecency. But this is a members only site, and as long as I conduct myself with dignity and decorum, it would be hard to bring a case against me.
I’m an adult, I like sex, and I joined a site with like minded others. |

I take it to mean they probably have a 9 to 5 job and that they can't do day time meets. I don't personally see why people get so annoyed with it. To me it's a description of their way of life. When you start a new conversation with someone you often ask what kind of job they are in, I see it as no different. |

I see the term “Professional” being used by many as being a reason they don’t have a face pic available for everyone to see on their profile. We all have the right to decide what photos we allow others to see whether we work or not. But for some people (myself included) a face pic can determine if there’s an initial attraction there or not. |

Professional can mean different things to different people. A professional photographer said to another that saying your professional just means you get paid for it: It doesn't mean you are any good at what you do. All with a job are getting paid and are in a profession. But not all have a responsible job or one with a recognised status. I think that is how it is used mostly on Fab. But in swinging, there are a very broad spectrum of careers. However, some will need to be VERY discreet (e.g. teachers, legal, celebs etc). |

Well...that's one take on it "
I’ll tackle that one after I get some sleep which should of been hours ago ! |

"The opposite of a 'dosser' "
Thats how I've always read into it. It's not so much a statment saying they're in employment its more a way to signal to others how they veiw themselves in terms of education, finance, culture and/or class.
Of which I'm not hating on because because we all want to find the sort of people we want on here. So if stating your a professional gets you the results you want with the people you want more power to you.
Personally all terminology aside we like to take people as we find them, in person. That's a better way to get a true measure of someone rather than the profile text and key words. That's why we much prefer to meet people in a club than through a profile. |

Yeah, it's why I hated the online dating scene.
People swiping left or right purely based on what their profile says.
It's so different meeting in person.
We're in danger of increasingly shafting everyone into categories without giving it much thought and missing a great chance of meeting some very good people.
Sometimes, a profile isn't always a true indicator of how someone actually is or behaves.
Ah well. Just my two cents. |

Profiles just list items of sex meat. Like a sex catalogue.
Not people. |
