you know about what you know.
You don't need to tell anyone anything if they enquire with you about something else.
I now live my life by this (sucessfully)
In response to such conversation: Just say "I know" and they seem to be satisfied with that.
When Mum says:
"Why havent you visited lately?"
"I know"
Or Dad:
You haven't visited your Mum lately?
"I know"
This gives you necessary breathing space.
The boss:
Your timekeeping needs improvement!
"I know"
A friend:
I wonder if it will be hot tommorrow too?
"I know"
"You know what?"
I Know...what your saying"
Others will subconsciously detect an air of inpenatrability and back off.

The Husband:
"You have spent a bit too much on that!"
The Wife:
"I know you think that"
The Husband:
"BUT YOU HAVE!"
The Wife:
