One of the greats died 40 years ago today - Bob Marley, who was only 36.

Any favourite songs or memories from the Masterblaster ? Or any other great reggae artists who deserve a hat tip ?

I've always loved this live version of Stir It Up with the original Wailers, so sensual.

Thats a seriously seductive song ! I love the backing vocals too, by Rita Marley, Marcia Griffiths and Judy Mowatt.

I prefer the version featuring Lauren Hill as it’s even sexier

One of the best nights of our life was going to the natural Mystic gig in London where we got to enjoy Ziggy Marley, Rita & the IThrees and the Wailers inc Bunny. They were supported by an absolute legend *hat tip’d* Jimmy Cliff

such a great night. Ziggy looked and sang uncannily like his dad.

There and to the left a bit

Too many to mention from Bob...many of them already listed but personal favourites would have to be Could You Be Loved and No Woman No Cry...but I Shot The Sherriff and Satisfy My Soul are two not mentioned so far worthy of a mention....and Redemption Song too

From reggae it's but a short hop, skank and a moonstomp to ska...

Desmond Dekker

Prince Buster

Toots & The Maytals

The Skatalites

The Pioneers

....and many more are on my regularly played artists...

..then to come more up to date the likes of The Simmertones, The Bluebeaters and Lee Thompson's Ska Orchestra are keeping the sound alive

Several of his in my playlist. Annie Lennox did a beautiful cover version of one of my favourite

Waiting In Vain

From the very first time I placed my eyes on you, girl

My heart says follow through

But I know, now, that I'm way down on your line…….

It's your love that I'm waiting on

It's my love that you're running from

Top Ranking - A short simple song but always got to me, made me question who's pulling the strings and why. Kind of always troubled me a bit that we share a common origin yet we have grown so divided by man made borders and being told we are all so different from each other (which has then become a self fulfilling prophesy).

To be fair I listen to the alban Survival a lot in my youth and it made me ask a few questions and stick my head back into the history books.
